To me, there is no excuse for this since EVERY dealership has access to PTS & OASIS and the 21G01 like every other TSB/SSM is listed on the home screen of PTS for anyone there to read so at the very least the service manager or the VP at that dealership should be informed how his/her staff is lacking the training to perform or understand the update and instead is blatantly telling lies to the customer (tarnishing the dealership's reputation) to cover for incompetence. Again, hopefully @Ford Motor Co. is reading this and seeing another example of a poorly trained & staffed dealership. My $.02 but I wouldn't take my truck there for a simple oil change.
Edit: you're a better man than me because I would've felt no remorse giving them a bad survey because that bad survey would get the attention of management and then changes might take place because incompetence & lying to customers is not okay.
While I agree with everything you said, the service advisor coincidentally happens to be my girlfriend's blood cousin. I went with him since I figured he'd go the extra mile if needed, but I guess not. The lying part really pissed me off, and I told my gf that her cousin is a disgrace to anyone bearing their last name (to which she agreed lol). I don't want to screw him over with a bad survey and then next month I'm at a family gathering and he's there sitting next to me. I expressed to him and the service manager that I was upset with the fact that it wasn't even attempted and that I was upset they kept my truck there for 5 days for no reason at all and told them I have Ford dealers closer to me than that one, but I go there because as a former employee of that dealer, I have a bit of an affinity to that store and I know a bunch of the sales guys that work there. However, in the future, I said I was taking my business elsewhere. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think what I did today will have an effect because now, they are aware of the amount of money they are passing up on by not performing these updates. It wasn't until I told them that today alone they lost out on a few thousand dollars that they offered to keep my truck to try the update. They literally let tens of thousands of dollars walk out of those doors since the updates became available. That's crazy to me.
My own truck had two TRM updates recently so it's possible they did one of them and now the 2nd one is showing. Also, the GSM update that seemed perpetually stuck as an available module has been updated from Ford and will now clear from the list when done.
A silly question regarding the charger to use while updating. I have the Clore PL2320 coming in too as I have heard a lot of people who are using them with good luck. Were you one of those people? If so, just curious as to whether you used the battery charge mode (2/8/20A setting), or if you used "power supply" mode during the update...
Also, I think in either case the 21G01 said to connect the negative side to an engine ground point and not directly to the battery so the battery saver is not engaged... Any location you found that works better than others?

That's not the battery charger I have but I use the 10A setting on mine and I believe I used this ground point. FDRS will show current battery voltage in the lower right-hand corner so just verify that shows it maintaining charge with charger connected.

I read more about the power supply mode. It sounds like it may be a decent feature to use on the Clore unit for doing things like applying these kinds of updates.
If any others have used the PL2320, please advise as to how it worked. Thanks!!
Well got the truck back after its extended dealership visit. As noted in another message here I told them to skip the BC update, they just said it takes a long time, and I am close enough to it on the OTA updates that I will just wait the couple weeks rather than being without the truck for another day or so.
They did:
The recall on the underbody insulators/driveshaft, which isn't software but was glad to have it done.
Reprogram the TBC, which was funny because that OTA update came while it was at the dealer. Ah well, I know for sure it's done.
I mentioned some harsh shifting at times, especially when I go to back into the driveway, they reproduced and did the harsh shift TSB, required reprogramming the TCU and running an advanced break-in procedure, took 2.5 hours, but at least from the drive home and parking, the transmission performed way better, it holds the gear better when letting off the gas and is just so far a better feeling drive.
Supposedly they checked for APIM updates and that is up to date, which it might be, not too worried either way.
They also fixed a slight clunk I got from the driver seat on right turns, also has a TSB and the seat feels way more solid on turns.
All the reprogramming and that, and for the first time since I got the truck it had no codes on a drive. I have had active codes every day I have driven the truck since I got it, and the drive home was the first time it has been code free. None of them were serious or caused an active warning light, if I didn't have OASIS access or unless someone put a scanner on it the average owner wouldn't have even known. But it just feels better that they are gone.
So my service advisor just called me and told me all updates were applied. Yet when I check my VIN in PTS, this is what I see. As I'm on the phone with him, I tell him that according to PTS, nothing has been done to my truck. He says it's because the truck has to be started and ran for it to update. I ask him, so after they flashed the updates, they just left the truck there without turning it on or performing a road test? He says no, the truck was started and taken out of the service bay and driven to the lot where it will be until I get there to pick it up, but it was wasn't running long enough for it to register in PTS or Fordpass. PTS also says it has not received any communication from my truck since June 2nd.
To any of you guys on the tech side, is there any merit to anything he is saying, or should I just prepare to be disappointed when I arrive to pick it up tomorrow?
It sounds to me like the service advisor had no clear line of communication with the technicians that worked on it. They likely just read the service ticket over the phone. Then made general assumptions about however they imagine updates apply. Service advisors have no idea how this stuff works most of the time and I don't blame them.
The likely scenario is that a technician might have updated some modules, might have PMI some modules and might have ran a network test. All such serviceable actions in FRDS were probably filed on the service ticket as "updates" because nobody wants to do extra administrative paperwork. Even though they are not updates, the service advisor will look at the vague notes then have to interpret them for owner over the phone.
It is not hard to image this scenario at any shop.
APIM Self Test = software update right?
There are a lot of shops which take their time to do their best though. When things roll into our shop for completely unrelated problems we take the time to do all pending updates while we're in the vehicle unless if there is a hefty multi-hour update which requires a dedicated scheduled visit.

Just saw my first Scheduled Update icon in the corner of my Sync screen. Not expecting much as it said the truck would not be useable for 8 minutes. Maybe it is the second TRM update @Livnitup spoke about. I'll go back out here in a bit and see what update was delivered. It's almost pathetic as it feels like a quasi-birthday since I have never received one of these before... Man, I guess I need to get out more.....

Thanks for checking @Livnitup ! I just got the Ford Pass notification that 22S17 has been completed, so as usual you were sort on.
So I guess now that just leaves the GSM and IPC. Hopefully they will both update this weekend when I give FDRS another go. Looking forward to getting out of the interim SW update status where I have Sync 22087.415 (OTA 2.8.X...? maybe) so now it nags me to keep hands on wheel and eyes on the road when using ACC, but no Blue Cruise, no maps and no selection in the ACC setting for hands free.
Is there any trick to getting the IPC update to take? Should I use the thumb drive which the tech said failed a few times before, or go straight to the CAN update knowing it takes a lot longer... The tech said they tried with the thumb drive, but I do not think it was much of an effort and they just gave up... Is the IPC update the one you have to leave the door open for something like 10 minutes after the update to let the vehicle sleep and fully apply it...?

I would definitely give the USB route a few tries before resorting to the CAN programming method and the procedure below is just for the USB method:
