Software Updates
You need to be aware too especially if you're an Android user. They're pushing everybody to Android 14 which has a lot of bugs especially when it pertains to Android auto. I spent the last week rolling back my phone to Android 13 as some of my favorite apps would not work with Android 14. In essence they've broken things intentionally so things like carplay and mirroring apps are not going to perform very good under Android 14.

[QUOTE=rugedraw;7525204]FORScan will not work to perform module updates. If your dealer is willing to help you with the issue, I STONGLY suggest you give them the truck and let them do their thing. You have been sent updates many times between May and now, and they all fail because the OTA expires. There seems to be something wrong with your truck's ability to talk to Ford's servers. Let them fix it.
@rugedraw could the failures be caused by the battery not being charged? they did replace the battery a few weeks ago.

Because your truck is not reporting to Ford, I cannot check for any DTC's to see if it is reporting low battery voltage. Either way, your truck is not communicating with Ford properly. Perhaps just resetting the TCU will help; you can try. If you don't know where the TCU is to unplug it directly, then just disconnect the battery from your truck for 30 minutes and reconnect it. See if that allows to set up Fordpass after that.

That's not good. Your truck has not gotten an update in 2 years, and the last update you got took you to Sync version 20301 which is bad software known to break the OTA process. Without dealer intervention, your truck will never get updates. You need to schedule an appt with your dealer and tell them your truck is not getting updates and reference TSB 22-2404.
Finally made my appointment with service and they told me I will be charged to fix this? Anyone have any knowledge on this?
The service writer was also kind of a dick acting like I shouldnt do any research on this and i shouldnt reference internet forums.
any chance someone could run VIN 1FTEW1C87NKD74371 to see if its not receiving updates? last OTA was 2/23, and I had some recalls done this spring that might have been pushed by hand.
thanks.
thanks.
With that said: It is not entirely their fault. Ford never released a campaign to specifically address the Sync 20301 broken software issue. Because of this, many people had to resort to the forums for help. Just because dealers are not aware of the issue does not mean the issue does not exist. The other side of that coin is that without a way to bill Ford for the work needed to get your truck out of the state it is in, they will be reluctant to help. Nobody likes to work for free and that is something anyone can relate to. The real culprit of this issue is Ford as a manufacturer and not dealerships. They are the ones that released bad software to vehicles and they should be offering customers/dealers a way to fix the problem. I understand that nothing I just said helps your cause, but it is the reality of the situation you are in. Unfortunately, you may have to call Ford Customer Service and open a case in order to get the help you need. Because the service advisor was a dick and he wants to go ahead and say "the forums" don't know what they're saying, I am going to go out of my way to give you ammo to present your case to them. While this is stuff they have access to should they bother looking for it, I will do your service advisor's job for him. Feel free to show him this post.
This first pic is a screenshot of the Sync tab in PTS for your truck. Circled is the Sync version you're on and also the date that your truck got that update which is July 8th, 2021. PTS shows that the build date for your truck is 7/82021. This means that your truck has never gotten an update since it was built, or that once it was built, it was sent an update from Ford the same day that put it on the broken software it has now.
Also attached are two GSB's. 23-7035 was sent to all Ford dealers on May 26th indicating the importance of having an up to date APIM. As per the GSB:Effects Of Not Having An APIM Programmed Properly
• Future map updates will cause errors and will not complete.
• Missing features such as climate, various settings for vehicle, and SiriusXM.
• Inaccurate navigation or compass.
• Connected Services may not work properly such as incomplete software updates via Over-the-Air, Connected Navigation inoperable, and enhanced voice recognition failures.
• Applink, FordPass or Lincoln Way features may not operate properly.
• Loss of navigation, navigation voice prompts, or SYNC voice prompts.
• Erratic Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto operation.
• General inability for SYNC to communicate to the Ford back-end cloud.
Also attached is GSB 23-7146 sent to all Ford dealers on October 26th. In the GSB there is a link that takes you to this document showing what is the latest Sync version all connected Ford vehicles should be on. A screenshot of that document is below. This document is outdated as there is a newer Sync version that that one out for 2021 trucks, but that is enough to show them that your truck is not up to date.
For good measure, here is a screenshot of the Sync tab of my own truck (also a 2021 with the 12" screen) showing it is on Sync 23291 (291st day of 2023) which is only a few months old.
Tell your service advisor that he should probably join the forums. The lack of training and resources they get from Ford, they can get here.
