Perhaps I am not understanding your question? You asked if the HMI in the APIM is enabled or disabled to those that have it running. I can confirm that no one who recently updated had to enable it in FORscan to make it operational. If is says activation pending, most people have reported 24 hours before it kicks off and appears in Fordpass after you update.[/QUOTE]

I am just curious, when the latest update was applied, did it change/rewrite the value of the Alexa HMI in APIM to enabled?

You don't need a Ford employee number or an ASE certification to get the license, so why would them giving it to me for free (due to their own shortcomings) put them at any more legal risk than they would be if I pay them to get it? I'm sorry, but your logic is flawed. By your standards, it should not be made readily and easily accessible to the public at all. Yet, there it is for you and me and anyone else that wants it.

...but $50 keeps a lot of people from trying it. I gotta agree that an open license for FDRS would be a really costly thing for Ford - it'll be a support nightmare. As I mentioned previously, what I would like to see instead is a consumer focused, restricted version specifically for doing USB-based vehicle updates, and nothing more.

I don't think it's the $50 license so much as the $550+tax Mongoose that's required to use the license. lol

Yes, I agree with you 100% that a USB based update from Ford would be easier for the masses. However, we aren't getting any support from Ford. With the expiration of the FSA for BlueCruise programming, we are actually having support from Ford taken away. If they don't want to give me a free license, then so be it. However, refund me and everyone else their $50 that had to update themselves. Giving me that money back will cost them a lot less than the 8 hours of labor at $150-$200 an hour that they were willing to pay dealers to update the truck for me. Also, what happens when Joe Blow with the USB update from Ford pulls the USB drive out of the slot before he is supposed to and messes up their truck that way? We are getting USB fixes from Jesse instead of Ford while Ford monitors this thread and many others which is mind blowing to me. Ford should be cutting that man a 6 figure check to help them sort these things out, even though he'd probably help them for free if they asked.

One year ago today I started this thread.

I am still struggling with getting 2.8.1 loaded on my Job 1 ‘21 non Bluecruise 150, but I am on the road again and can’t leave the battery charger connected. Will try again next week.

I figured that was the case. I've been waiting for you to post your success story for the past few days. lol

My 2021 Job 1 truck just downloaded 2.7.4 on the 11th. 2.8.1 is next. I can't wait. The updates have been rolling in regularly since they replaced the APIM. My truck doesn't have BlueCruise either.

Would you be willing to post a pic of the full screen Apple Carplay? I'm just wondering if carplay still has a sidebar like the android auto or if you can go true "full screen" without any sidebar?

Thanks

Honestly, I am not sure. I haven't updated to Alexa yet. To me, it's not worth getting a license for it when it's already going out OTA so I'm just going to wait. Good question, though. If I remember, I'll plug my truck in tonight and check in FORscan what mine says now before the update hits. I somewhat remember someone saying it was off before and after. I think that convo was in another forum. I bounce around so many threads, it's hard to keep track of when and where I learn things.
