Quick question,

Im already at 2.8.3, done through FDRS. I know the consensus is to disable auto updates until this gets sorted out but does disabling auto updates mean to not only turn off auto updates in sync but also clear your schedule in sync?

@Vulnox, okay thanks for that. I promise to remain supremely excited about my sexy new truck… as long as you’re always there to talk me off the ledge!😉

I’ve got a couple more years of commuting and chores to do before we start our adventure. I guess that, and a premium ESP, might calm my nerves as well.

We’ve always been Toyota people with well over a million combined miles on our last eight vehicles. We replaced a starter, two water pumps, a cruise control module, and never had one of them in the shop over night. If they had offered a 7.2kW onboard generator, not taken up the under seat storage with the battery, had a way to get in the bed, and remembered to design in tow hooks🤪, I probably would have stayed with them. Ford just does a great job of making a “world class” truck that is comfortable and useful to everybody, regardless of what their needs are.

All, please forgive my moment of weakness.😅

I am in the same situation. Mine has been going on for over a week now. When a member here checked my VIN its reporting the state of charge of the battery is insufficient for performing the update. I am going to try it one more time this weekend after a night on the charger.

Just letting you know that you're not alone. Good luck with yours!

Thanks!! yeah mine has tried to do it for like five days and I hooked it up to a charger yesterday, charge it to 100%. Disconnected, started the truck let it run, started the update reconnected it to the power supply mode so it stays trickle charged, and it failed. It has failed five times on the charger now. I think I’m giving up. Trying again now,EDIT- failed, and another scheduled at 1:30.

I even tried it while disconnected from the charger at 100% battery, and nothing. Good luck to you also!

Could be a crazy idea but if your batteries are fully charged and still on the charger and it fails then resetting the BECM may be something you want to consider. You can do this via FDRS or Forscan and basically this procedure tells the truck a new battery has been installed. It may take some voltage/current readings and then update the state of charge reading to help you get past that road block.

You have 2.8.1 deploying to your truck as I type this.

Edit: Looking through the notes, it says it failed multiple times do to insufficient battery. It's a very common problem with this particular update. Have you tried the update while leaving the battery charger connected?

I edited out your VIN but will post this for others to have a look. Somebody more qualified should ask @Ford Motor Co. why owners are getting OTA Downgrades though because you aren't the first to confirm this problem.

I could justify it if any file in the package was a newer version, because usually there are checks in place to prevent older files from being installed, but some ECUs are fully errased and reprogrammed and all the available files are older than what you already have.

The question I have is: why does the current software reported not match? There were no other GWM updates, dealership FRDS updates, and you didn't have the GWM replaced right? Ford might have a problem on the server end.

Again @Airborne_Ape thanks for providing this information. I did get a call back from Ford last night and I believe the customer service rep did understand my problem. With this information, I was able to explain details that she could see on her end. She thanked me for letting them know about this and said she would send it on to the software deployment team. She said they may call me back for additional information, but I doubt it. They can see it was an eff up. If they do anything about it, they'll just fix it and move on. No harm in others with the same problem opening up a case with Ford as I did; especially if they have voice with more 'creds than me.

To answer your questions-No replacement of the GWM. There were FDRS updates by the dealer in April. They fixed the stuck updates using TSB 22-2150. A 12-day ordeal but I did drive off the lot with BC. As you can see, OTA 2.8.2, 2.8.3 and the TRM recall fix were successful after the TSB. The widget shows my current GWM software version at EKP.

My strategy will be to keep software updates off on my job 1 '21 until there appears to be a real upgrade available via OTA. Everything works as it should on my truck and I have all available features and recalls addressed. I'm not saying others should do that; it's just what seems to make sense for my truck at this time.

Not having Forscan; could not purchase unlimited license, so held off, and do not have FDRS. I guess my only option here is to just take it to dealer. Guess my truck didn't reset the BECM like others who have done exactly what I have and it worked. I am at work, truck is home, still on PS mode with an update scheduled for 1:30. If that fails, expect it will, I don't know what more to do. Maybe drive it, charge it, and try again..

Truck works, so do not want to push my luck lol.

Thank you!! Hmm. It deploys, but never installs. Does that make sense? I get the "we tried" message on the app. It is strange it is deploying now though? I tried at 3 am and 7am, both failed. Truck is scheduled for 1:30.

I was also told it was deploying last night.
