Software Updates
[QUOTE=rugedraw;7241069]
The update to 2.8.1 is a large one. Ford claims 145 minutes, but some people have reported it takes only an hour. I don't know how much battery drain an update can actually cause, but if during the update, the battery gets to a certain percentage (for some reason, 80% is popping into my head......may have read that on this thread, but I could be wrong), then the update will fail. Try dropping the charger down to the ground through the engine bay so you can close the hood after you connect it. People on here have reported the update failing even with the charger hooked up, so good luck.
Yeah my 2.8.1 took less than an hour and I didn't hook up a charger. If it is failing due to battery voltage we can see it in the OTA history in OASIS. I posted an example for someone on here a couple weeks ago. There are two checks, battery voltage and battery percentage. The user in question was just a few percent under where it needed to be so they hooked it up to a charger overnight then a day or two later it updated fine.
You don't have to have it hooked up to a charger for the update to complete, you can just use the charger to get your truck topped off if you mainly just take shorter trips.

I checked his OTA history a few posts up and it says: vPowerConsumptionRate:9estimatedTimeOfActivation:8 400estimatedBatteryLevel:Insufficient12VBattery(15 )projectedLvSoc:Insufficient12VBattery(15)currentL vSoc:62utcTime:2022-07-04T23:50:41.000+0000
In his original post, he says he charged the battery to 98% and it still failed which is why I suggested he try leaving the charger on. So weird how different people have different experiences with the same updates on the same trucks. lol

Can one of you guys that's more knowledgeable than me on this check my VIN and provide an opinion?
I took my truck to the dealer to get some of the recalls done. One being the trailer brake module. The dealer performed this update on June 2nd. A week later on June 9th, I get queued up the follow-up trailer module update that comes via OTA. It downloaded but failed install due to "software mismatch" and as far I can see, it has not tried to install again. On June 9th, I also get queued up for 2.7.3 via OTA. My OTA dashboard states it failed to install 2.7.3 three times, yet when I go into my truck and go into the updates menu on the touch screen, it tells me 2.7.3 is the latest update that has installed, and this has been the case since June 9th. My dashboard still says OTA retry is pending since the last time it failed on 6/21. I feel like my truck is stuck on a loop trying to install an update on itself that it already has.
To be honest, BlueCruise is not that important to me. I am more interested in the trailer module being up to date the camera unlock feature. The last time I took the boat out was right before I took it to the dealer, and I was getting trailer faults popping up on my dash literally every 5 seconds. I'm taking the boat out this Sunday for the fist time since the dealer updated the TRM, but I am not sure if the second TRM that came via OTA went through or not since my dashboard says it failed. However, it also says 2.7.3 failed, yet my truck says it has it. All I want is for my truck to not sound like a damn pinball machine while I am towing. It was really annoying.

I did try it after my charger stated it was at 100%. And it failed again. I also did a long drive on Sunday (the day before using the charger) and it failed then too. So I really don't know what's up.

To me it looks like your truck was already on a distribution list for the OTA TRM update but since you had it done at the dealership then it was still sent OTA to your truck but probably failed because it saw it was already done. I ran your VIN in FDRS and it's not showing any TRM updates so I think you're probably fine on that. Below are the updates still showing as available in FDRS. The 2.7.3 IPC OTA update has failed up until now is the probably the same IPC update showing in FDRS so hopefully that will come eventually. This is just my take on all of this but it may not be correct.

If they have a PowerBoost, it has two 12v batteries. I wonder if it is reading it off the second one under the rear seats.

Its an Eco boost engine so I only have one battery. It's raining now and I can't get the truck in my garage so I am unable to plug in the batter charger without it getting wet. Or at least for the next few hours. I have a road trip in August and I am really hoping to get the Bluecruise working before that.
