Approximately how much do these mongoose cables cost and where do you get them? Same with the FDRS? Just curious. Thank you.

$500 new on Amazon. you may find one on ebay too. If you can find a used VCM II that will work too. I was able to find a used VCM II locally through facebook marketplace for $300. Be careful not to buy a Chinese knockoff though. Facebook marketplace for local sales has a smaller footprint than ebay so you are more likely to find one at a reasonable price.

The guide lays everything out for with links to each product. The Mongoose Cable is $500 and the VCX Cable is $100 but you have to follow very specific instructions with it or you can brick your ecm. The FDRS software is free but you have to buy the license which is $50 for a 2 day license.

If you are connected to the truck with the cable, you don't have to put the USB drive back in the computer. It will read the data directly from the module to confirm installation. Sync does tell you to put it back in the computer, but it isn't a necessary step when using FDRS.

Very frustrated. Tried 2 different dealerships to have them install my FDRS updates (knowing those need to be installed for me to get the latest sync). I'm a 2021 build 2 f150- on software version 21223, revision 197. The dealerships are giving me the run around saying no software is available.. "oh we could install the FDRS updates but we would have to charge you thousands of dollars". Call Ford customer service and no help at all. Just wait for your Over the air updates, right now the system says you are up to date, no updates pending.

I think my only option is updating myself. Anyone have a mongoose cable they are selling or would rent to me? I'm in northern California.

You're getting frustrated because the dealers wont' do work for free?

Unless they are repairing your vehicle under warranty and the repair requires the module software to be updated, your only options are to pay to have them do it or wait for the OTAs.

Post your VIN and @Livnitup will post your outstanding OTAs and such, including if one failed and has now stopped your truck from receiving more updates.
If there is a failure/stuck APIM, then you can take it in and the dealer should address it under warranty.
But if your truck is perfectly fine and you just want the latest updates NOW, well ... you don't get that for free.
