"It was surprisingly quiet!- but then again, it turns slow, but it pulls a bunch of weight almost continually!"

Yep, the operative word was WAS That bearing must have howled like a wolf in heat.

I'm learning.... still needs some details done, but overall it looks OK for a complete rookie. It's good enough to button up and move on.

Looks great white!

Not sure of the perfection your going for, for now, did you block sand w/black primer yet. Show and tell coat. The black skim coat will make you aware of any high and lows that were missed once hit with a sanding block. Can be very hard to see and feel. Makes it easier, specially if you have a sanding block that will stretch across transition perimeters. In case you weren't aware.

No, not yet. I don't even own a block sander.

I'm sorta thinking that can wait until next year. Not nearly enough time to do it all. That alone took me all day. I'll probably throw a quick coat of paint on it tomorrow, then button her up.

Do you have a recommendation for a block sander? Size, brand, etc?

These are hand sanders, there's many who make them. Different shapes and sizes. You can purchase in a kit of different lengths and grit blocks. Inexpensive and work well for finishing up.

I got to thinking... I lied. I do own one block, but it's this one. Probably 4 inches is all it is though.
