Just crawled up on my wet, cold roof to fix a vent. At work, my neighbor texted me that one of my vents broke in the wind last night. Is it standard to use plastic vents on a roof where you guys live? That's BS, IMO. Guaranteed a metal one would have been just fine.

This dude went after the gator too.

What kind of vents?
Plumbing vent? Usually plastic.

Turbine Vent?
Usually aluminum. I've never seen a plastic one of these.

Fan Vents?
Most in big box are plastic now. Mine are aluminum.

Depends on the vent. Vent stack and Main vent and re-vent are schedule 40 (plumbing). Can vents are metal (square roof vents). Ridge vent is usually plastic (roof/peak).

It's a vent for heat - maybe it's only a Utah thing? Mounts right to the roof. Wish I would had a pic of it, but it was a downpour when I went up.... didn't want to mess up the phone.

Pretty sure this is the exact same one that is up there... 20 more dollars, and you've got a metal one for **** sakes....

Actually they're to vent moisture so your roof doesn't mold out. They're unnecessary if you have ridge vent. Ridge vent tops can vents, can vents were the old way.

Have to say, haven't seen a plastic can vent yet...that's new.
