Just to show you that it was a REALLY decent facility, here are some videos I took while it was still in operation. The first one is my Buddy's Lincoln when it was bone stock with just gears. At this altitude, we are roughly one second slower than sea level.

So school me on seals... front diff pinion seal is leaking on the highboy and I see National and TIMKEN make the seal in normal material and "Viton" material. Is the viton material worth the double in cost? Or should I just stick with the regular seals.

Part numbers (if yall could double check Im looking at the right seals ) are:
(1976 Dana44 front differential pinion seal)
National 5778 for normal and 5778V for Viton
Timken 5778 for normal and 5778V for Viton

AFAIK, viton is just supposed to be more chemical resistant and heat resistant than regular rubber. Either will work fine... I've used both as an o-rings with success at work, with no proof of either being better.

Viton has a higher temperature rating (5F to 400F without degradation) while Buna is better for low temperature applications (rated -22F to 250F without degradation). These are the ratings, they do not fail outside of those temperatures, they just wear faster outside of those ranges.
The resistance to automotive oils are roughly the same.
Viton still seem to last a little longer to me but that is just my opinion.
Viton is more resistant to lighter solvents (like lacquer thinner, xylene, or the old brake cleaners).
