Default 2021 F150 Update Issues

Rugedraw,

Would you mind checking my truck VIN out for issues. I haven't seen an update in a long time. My VIN is 1FTFW1E83MFB16292. Thanks you.

Perhaps if the problem is with the battery they will replace that, or if it is with the charging system, they will fix it. One hopes. We will see.

No OTA history and your Sync version is blank in Ford's servers. Does not look good, tbh. What Sync version does your truck say it is on in the "about sync" menu of your touchscreen? A dealer did some work on your APIM in June of 2022 and your truck seems to be stuck since then.

It says version 21146_PRODUCT, Revision145. I think they did a manual software update at that time. It wouldn't surprise me if they had no clue what they were doing.

Hard to tell, but from what I can, they did update it successfully and possibly got you out of sync 20301 which is the one know to break the OTA process on 2021 trucks. When you can, post a pic of the entire "about sync" screen and I'll ask the guru to take a look for any config issues when he gets back to town.

Threw the battery charger on the truck on Friday and this morning had a message on the display that an update was scheduled for 1:30am tomorrow... coincidence? Anywho, will put it back on the battery charger tonight to aid in a successful update.

Just wanted to say thanks again @rugedraw Decided to make an appointment for the dealership to check the battery and they replaced it under warranty. Oddly enough, 6.5 which had been failing every day for a few weeks, finally installed two day before it was scheduled to go in. That was the day, the temps where I am started to get warmer. We had been going through a couple weeks of very cold weather, so I am wondering if the cold weather had been messing with the battery as I had never had an issue before. However, a day after 6.5 installed, 6.8 downloaded and failed. After the new battery was installed, 6.8 installed that night.

Battery capacity if you have the OEM battery should be at 70 and yours is at 18. SoC is at 53 out of 100. I would recommend fully charging the battery, reset the BMS and then try the update again. If you have a good charger (20amps +), I would leave the charger on the truck while you attempt the install.

As we all know, the 20-23 time period included a lot of parts-supply issues. One wonders whether these issues led Ford to order or to accept some lower quality batteries than it would have done in the past. The widespread battery failures of recent weeks that are correlated with cold weather just are not consistent with the F15tos being "Ford tough" as advertised. More fundamentally, they are not consistent with the expected capabilities and uses of the vehicle.

So maybe their is some issue with the batteries, or maybe there is some engineering issue involving the design of the truck's electrical system marginally failing the requirements of OTA, or maybe just random failures. Whatever the case, it's great that your battery was replaced, and I am hoping that mine will be also.

Guys, a dumb question - when the software update skips few versions - for example from 6.2.0 to 6.4.0, and then from 6.5.0 to 6.8.0, can I assume that each update is cumulative? (meaning jump from 6.5.0 to 6.8.0 includes 6.6.0, 6.7.0)
Also - what's up FordPass removing SW update version from the app? (it shows that there was an update on Jan 23, and it used to have the version and few meaningless details, but now all the info about the update is gone)
