AndyMac17…did the dealer or Ford cover the cost for the repair? If not, do you mind sharing what it cost?
The dealer just picked my truck up for basically the same reason. I bought the truck used and it just passed the 36,000 mile mark.🤦‍♂️

Understand that Ford's OTA process does not work like the update process on your phone works. Just because you have pending updates doesn't mean you will get them right away. You have to wait for them to be sent to your truck. As far behind as you are, it will be a loooooong time before you are up to date. You won't see any of the 6.x.x updates until you get the 2.x.x, 3.x.x, 4.x.x and some non-numbered priority updates. The good news is that your dealer did get your truck un-stuck and you will slowly get caught up.
awesome, thank you! I’ll go let it sit for a bit and maybe I can check back in with you to confirm it went through!

the dealer and ford covered the cost! There’s a quality program in place for it to cover hardware and labour.

they can pull up the info and submit it through here:

TSB-22-2404 - Revised TSB for Stuck Updates.

The work is covered under warranty, extended warranty and this TSB.

Yea, sure. Your touchscreen will tell you if it went through or not, but if you have any doubt, I'll check the system again.

Oh awesome, I didn’t realize it would tell me. I’m guessing just turn it on fully and let it run? Parking brake engaged? thank you!

Parking brake is BS; not needed. It doesn't hurt to have it on, though. Once the OTA is sent and the files are downloaded, the trigger to get the update to install is to turn on the truck. The reason I recommend leaving it on is so that the alternator is running and it does not fail due to low battery voltage. It's GWM update which is short and sweet......it'll take a few minutes to install. When you turn on the truck, go to the screen where you check for updates and it will tell you.

I ended up getting a new to me truck. Rugedraw, can you run my VIN and let me know how far behind my truck is in updates? I am slowly getting less afraid to buy a mongoose cable and update everything myself.

Thanks!

!
Is the VIN 1FTFW1ED3MFB23630 from your post back in September? If so, your truck is on Sync 22177 which is fairly outdated. OTA history shows 2 failed updates in recent history. The last OTA that failed was 3.5.2 and it failed because the truck was not started during the two weeks that the OTA trigger was active. I assume it was still sitting in the dealer lot when the update was sent. As far as getting updates goes, this truck is fine. You can wait for the OTA process to get you updated, but it will be a loooong time before you are caught up.
