Why does Ford even bother writing notes about the updates? It's meaningful technobabble that tells you nothing, even if you understand technobabble.

Agree that the notes are hit or miss, and sometimes missing altogether. Even so, when I get them I find them interesting, even if fragmentary. One hard-data item is the version number, which sometimes is included. So I am hoping that will improve, rather than be discontinued. There were some good updates in 2023, worthy of better and more complete descriptions than were in the emails, so there is opportunity

When I went out to my 2022 Job 1 KR PB this morning, the screen advised I was scheduled for 6.4.0 to be installed during my next OTA scheduled window of 1am tomorrow and it would take about 45 minutes. This is the second time I've received this notice. When I check my last update on the screen it shows 6.4.0 was already completed. FordPass showed I received 6.4.0 on Dec 11. Should I be concerned that this might be the second or third time for 6.4.0 to be installed?

PTS shows that 6.4.0 installed successfully on 12/11. Many people have reported phantom update messages with these 6.x.x updates. Just ignore it. Your truck is fine and hopefully you'll get 6.5.0 sooner than later.

As always, thanks for the extremely quick feedback.
Happy New Year!

No, but it may implode.

Seriously, this presents an interesting opportunity for the OTA research I do. Which update is it prompting you to install? Or post your VIN or message it to me if you prefer to keep it private.

The only thing that will happen is you won't get certain updates. Very few people reported that there were some recent changes to what having auto updates turned off does in terms of preventing updates from installing, but the sample size is too small to draw any real conclusions yet.

Edit: It is possible with the 6.x.x software updates that having auto updates off will actually prevent them from installing which was not the case before. That is what I am trying to determine. Very few people choose to have them off, so your case is interesting to me for that reason.

Even with auto-updates off, they are still going through. Let me know if you continue to get them with auto-updates set to off. 6.4.0 was the last one you got. I am not sure which update is the cut-off for them to go through regardless of auto-updates being on or off is; I am actively gathering data.
