So basically, Ford is biting off more than it's servers can chew?

I have a dumb newbie question for you guys. Where do you find the version of Sync you have? When I hit the "about" tab in the Sync section it gives me some info but I don't see any signs if it's 3.5.xxxx or something else?

There is really nowhere that you can see that. The only thing you can get to is the Sync Version and Revision... For example, I am at V22293 Rev 610. And I just got a notification from Ford that I have received OTA 3.5.3 last night.

Also, if I am not mistaken (and I could be), the OTA is really just a collection of software updates that are to be allied to the various modules in the truck. Again, if I am correct, it is not really meant to delineate the "version" you are on. I know back last year, I think I got OTA 1.7 before 1.6, so it doesn't necessarily even have to be applied in sequence. I am sure the other more knowledgeable folks will provide better info and correct any crap I have spewed... ;-)

For those of us with PTS access -- I just noticed this recently. On the Diagnostics->Sync tab for a vehicle there are updates (seemingly) happening there separate from the full OTA updates. I have 19 entries in there with a timestamp from the wee hours of this morning. Curious if anyone here knows more about that.

3.5.x and those types of updates are OTA power-up updates. While a new Sync version may be included in an OTA, they do not go hand in hand with one another.

Any updates your truck gets (be it OTA or FDRS forced) will get recorded there. Since you just got an OTA, it updated your last recorded state of apps on there. I use that tab to check for 2021 trucks that may be stuck on sync 20301. Up on top of that screen where it says last recorded state software is where I check to see if it says 20301 and if the date matches up with last recorded state apps, then I know they truck is stuck not getting updates. If I see the last apps are 20301, but the last recorded software is blank, it means it got an OTA that failed to install, so the sync version will be blank. If that's the case, I cannot tell using PTS if the truck is indeed stuck or not and I will ask the guru over on gen14forum to look into the truck with his tools to confirm if it is stuck or not.

Another cool thing there under diagnostics tab is vehicle history. You can see everything that has been done to the truck using FDRS. When I had my truck at the dealer trying to get it updated, they were telling me there were no updates available for it. I sent my service advisor a pic of PTS showing my truck hadn't even been connected to FDRS for a network scan, so how did they know it was up to date. Then I got the nervous stutter and they lied to me and told me the updates were not available from Ford yet, which I knew was BS because someone had pulled a lit of available updates for me using FDRS.

I love the vehicle history - being able to see what they did (or didn't) do before heading back in to pick it up is nice.

On the sync page I actually had install dates on there for a few of the apps with a 12/1 date (was coincidental because that was a short road trip evening) -- my last OTA before that was over Labor Day weekend and had none until last night. Wish I'd taken a screenshot of that. Otherwise all the other things you say make perfect sense.

Hopefully someone can check to see if I am scheduled to receive the update 3.5.3?

I see you got 3.5.2 a little over two weeks ago, but no other OTA in your queue yet.
