Yesterday when I had "several irons in the fire", incoming texts, whatever else, something that sure looked like a genuine FordPass notification popped up in the center of my iPhone screen (with the Ford "F" logo, looked entirely legit), saying that FordPass wanted permission to be able to tell which devices were connected to my WiFi network. Since I believe that I have approximately the correct amount of paranoia (ha) without going overboard, I thought, hey, I can imagine why OTA delivery might be improved (for us as a group, if not for me in particular) if Ford could gain a sense of how often--or whether--truck's SYNC's and TCU's are establishing connection to owners' WiFi networks, as I'm already able to monitor on a Xfinity/Comcast app. So I figured, yeah, this is more than plausible, plus there had been no request for my network password. I went ahead, tapping "Allow" on the notification. Within about an hour, I noticed that a new "device" was connecting to the WiFi network, and the Xfinity app asked whether I wanted to name it. Again, not having dished out my p'word, of course, I figured what was going on, so I dubbed the new "device", duh, "FordPass".
Now when I'm in the Xfinity app, under the list of devices, both those which are currently connected to WiFi and those which aren't (e.g., my phone, my desktop PC, my laptop, SYNC, the TCU), the one I've named "FordPass" has always appeared as connected, which seems right, since the FordPass app lives on my phone. Tapping over the newly established "FordPass" "device" in the Xfinity app, then tapping on "Device Details", reveals that the "FordPass" "device" is a "Generic Brand", a "Windows PC/Laptop" "model", and for "Device Type" it says "Computer"; as usual there's a MAC Address and IP Address for it. Seems weird, yet barely enough not weird. I'm not seeing specific reference to this in the FordPass app, at least not under Account > Privacy > Privacy dashboard > Vehicle Data, or under "Manage privacy settings" in that path, or under Account > Settings; maybe it will be added in an update to FordPass.
Has anyone else here experienced this?

I just called them. He checked my VIN and said I can wait for the OTAs (on 2.7.1) or have the dealer do it. I'm waiting for the OTAs. He said when it activates I'll get the first year free. Also their OTA push out schedule now says no later than 30 Jun to get BC out to everyone. They can't initiate OTAs; pushed in blocks by VIN. Nothing really new. We’ll see.
SYNC and the TCU ("mdm9650-tcu") have always shown up as exactly that among the connected/not connected devices per my Xfinity app, and I wasn't aware that either of them are MAC's... I dunno, "MAC" in that context isn't in reference to an Apple product? I'm a little sleep-deprived to Google, lol.

Which is why I'm perplexed because FordPass connecting would still use your iPhone's MAC address (it's still just an app on the phone) unless it's intentionally doing MAC spoofing which seems like way more work than Ford would put into it.
If you can see the MAC addresses in the Xfinity app that might help narrow down what's going on. (They're in the format of xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx [there could be hyphens instead of colons].)
The MAC address is the physical address of anything that connects to a network/LAN (WiFi or hard-wired).
