Yea, looks like this is going to go on for weeks. There's still a shi-ton of snow in mountains that has yet to melt.

Anyone ever get a coolant analysis done like you would an oil analysis?

Hopefully this shares OK. This is the UHP Trooper's dashcam video of stopping the impaired wrong way driver on I80.

So far I've found that Blackstone does them for $45. Kinda pricey, but all the other are worse (or incomplete analysis). Open to your input.

Crank oil is a waste unless you're testing for metals or it's a diesel imo.

Coolant, you test that yourself.

Transmission, - that's definitely worth the effort. Since it was almost 400 just for the fluid.

I'm looking for a test way beyond home testing (unless you know of something more advanced) - I'm interested in seeing why my coolant keeps turning brown.

I'm not sure that would help much more than you already know, high Iron/calcium contamination. From the stuff hardened and caked inside that's slowly letting go. You can test for electrolysis and hydrocarbons yourself.

That's the mystery I'd like to resolve. Is it rust or is it combustion contamination? Both can turn coolant brown. The block tester was negative, but I see white smoke from time to time and I slowly lose coolant, but I see no traces of a leak. Electrolysis test passed, too. I also have the intermittent loping idle mystery. I've flushed the system twice. All signs point to an intermittent leak in the head gasket or block, but none of the tests I'm aware of tell me that's true. Maybe it really is just rust, but I would like some assurance before I go and waste another 3 gallons of coolant and all the associated headaches of disposal, etc., just for it to turn brown a third time.

That's what happens when you spray Evap-O-Rust too near a chevy. Car just starts evaporating.
