It usually indicates that the slide pin (or pins) aren't sliding. In this case one of the pins was a little less free than the other, but it was about time for replacement anyway with only about 1/8" of material left on the outboard pad and the same on the right side set. As you can see in that pic, the rotors were due, too.

The wear indicators are now inboard, so they'll actually do their job next time.

Is that right Mayim?

In all seriousness, I have no idea what piece you are even talking about but this thread needs more snap.
This piece right here:

the cupholder part of it. The top is the one I have in my truck. I have an extra bottom one but it doesn't fit into the frame of the top one without leaving a gaping hole with no filler. Figured I would cut out the top one to allow for a tray while retaining the hole in the middle in case I felt like throwing a drink in there.

The bottom one definitely has a vinyl skin to it, whereas the top seems to be solid urethane foam with the outer surface possibly just formed in place. Tempted to get another of the top ones from the junkyard just to experiment with. As it stands the cupholder is just a hair too small to hold my phone in its case.

No material code that I can see on it.

I'm thinking that if the urethane doesn't form it I might just cut it out for a plastic tray to be epoxied into place.

Speaking of which, I need a new phone holder. My Scosche with the sticky suction cup can't handle all the jiggling off road, and it falls off the dash after a bit (although the magnet keeps the phone beautifully). I know I asked this before, but hit me with some suggestions.

Maybe hard mount something in that little pocket under the passenger side of the steering wheel? Could even use your scosche and plastic weld it to a bracket there so it's out of the way if you wanted to take it off later. You could use a cheap soldering iron to weld it or just get the cheap plastic welder from harbor freight. I started with the former and eventually bought the latter...the specialized tip makes it much easier...

The pocket just in front of the driver's knee?
I thought that spot was for your sidearm.
Fits mine perfectly.

The top one does not look like it would be easy to modify without a recovering.
The material seems to be a sheet of vinyl that is placed in the mold then the foam expanded and bonded from behind.
I feel you could modify it but then you would need to cover it with a material.

Doesn't mean you can't still mount a bracket in there to angle up alongside the steering wheel. Putting the bracket mount inside there would hide the bolts you use to mount it.
