That red primer is red oxide/zinc chromate....might be a phosphate formulation as well. Top of the line in rust protection. From sky scrapers to automotive, it used pretty much on all steel exposed to the environment.
I don't think that I posted this.... but I am a big fan of Tekton tools. Although a lot of them are Chinese made, they are still obviously a higher quality than most crap you get now.... and a large portion of the tools appear to be made by Apex. I received this email from Tekton last week, and it appears they are going to make a push to make some of their tools back here in the US.
I'm John Amash, the CEO of Tekton, and I wanted to share exciting developments about our US manufacturing efforts. More and more of our tools are now made in the US, through a combination of our in-house manufacturing operations and partnerships with some of the best contract manufacturers in the country. The percentage of USA-made products in Tekton's lineup is now over 20 percent, including angle wrenches, crowfoot wrenches, dead blow hammers, groove joint pliers, hard-handle screwdrivers, high-torque screwdrivers and nut drivers, pick and hook sets, and several tool storage products. Our next USA-made category will be flare nut crowfoot wrenches.
Our in-house manufacturing capabilities include CNC machining, broaching, laser engraving, vibratory polishing, and pressing. Although we maintain strict control over the materials, processes, and specifications everywhere we make our tools, we believe there’s no substitute for working in our own plant with our own equipment. So we’re working hard to expand our in-house manufacturing capacity.
To encourage you to try our USA-made tools, I’m providing the promotional code below. It gives you up to $10 off the highest-priced item in any order of $100 or more placed with a new or existing account on Tekton.com. While I hope you’ll use this code to try a USA-made product from Tekton, it will work on any Tekton.com order of $100 or more.
Also, they sent me this discount code if any of you are looking to buy any tools from them....
Had the damaged parts replaced on the passenger side of the truck and then at the end of last week, the rear spring shackle parted on the drivers side... Doh
The new one arrived today, so grabbed it lunch time and tried to fit it tonight after work, Nope, those bolts are not coming undone with the tools I currently own...
Looks like I'll be popping it back to the garage for them to play with using the proper tools... lol
Lol. You drop a paragraph or two once in awhile....it's good lol.

Yea, the drivers side rear shackle is usually the first to go.....in MI with the salt anyway. They develop a rust hole across the back and eventually stress crack up the sides.
I believe I ordered mine from RA. Bolts came with pre-applied Loctite. I cut my old shackles out with a 5" cut off wheel. Much easier that way. The 5" fit in there perfectly.
I pulled in the driveway this morning, and I'll be damned if the friggin' pinion seal isn't leaking again on my truck. I guess I should have bought a new pinion flange.
Also Adrian, I recall needing every bit of that 5" to cut those bolts straight across. A smaller wheel won't work. I'm not sure if you can sawzall them....that might be an option. I seem to remember I couldn't use the sawzall for some reason...somethings in the way. Iduno, you'll figure it out I'm sure. But I do recall the 5" cut off making short work of it.

Huh, I've had pinion seals go bad on other Fords in the past, not the gen 10 though. Actually, I don't recall anyone having to replace one with these trucks yet. So yeah, that's different.
Maybe there's a nick or a rough spot screwing it up.
