That's common and traumatizing. Can't dwell on the things that you can do nothing about though. Carry on and be your best...what else can you do ?

Interesting.
I had a hunch it was so.
more fluid capacity = cooler gears!

GRF150...
on a rear diff oil change:

> Is it overkill to add 2 bottles of friction modifier to a rear diff?
Each bottle is 4 oz.
(Rear diff is a 8.8" Ford)

< My rear is limited slip on a 4x4, but 9.5, not 8.8. I did need to add a 2nd bottle, you could tell, despite soaking the discs in it as instructed.

> Also, Is it worth it to add an upgraded diff cover that holds 4 litres of rear diff fluid ?
OEM rear diff capacity of a 8.8" is 3 litres.
Does an extra litre of rear diff fluid help in any way?

< There's a cover with cooling fins and it's patented. They had a clear cover made to demo how the fluid is thrown onto the gears with an engineer-designed stock cover... but NOT with a poorly shaped, but big volume cover.

< The extra volume is nice, but to me, not if it sacrifices proper "flow."

GR, you would be better off getting diff fluid with the additive already in there

8.8.

Jegs use to carry a selection of covers...yea here, -

EDIT: Wouldn't suggest their gaskets on the rear diff. The problem with gaskets back there is they tend to leach between service cycles. They won't drip necessarily or leak terribly.....develop wet spots though, usually on the bottom corners. Good at first, but stand a good chance of failing prematurely. Once they begin to leach, the formulation breaks down that much quicker. May be why Ford doesn't use them.

If you have an 8.8, a pretty cool cover you can find at the wrecking yard is off a Panther Crown Vic/Gran Marquis. I got this for like 5 dollars.... Sorry, crappy pic, I know.
