No, who knows what the heck they push. Seems like I'm restarting the thing every week or two lately. (This week I finished rebooting for one update, and ten minutes later another box popped up saying it would automatically restart again in about 48 hours!)
The restarts are a PITA because I have to save, close, and reopen everything I'm working on, but this is one of the very few times there's actually been a problem. Apparently something called "FortiEDR" was screwed up in this package. They're supposed to send out a fix "beginning Wednesday, Nov. 3." I hope that A) It actually drops today, and 2) It fixes the problem and doesn't break something else.
My boss asked me if I wanted him to order me a new laptop. It's not necessary, but could be used as an excuse to get a new one. I just don't know if it would be worth the hassle to move from the current T480 to a Yoga Y13. The smaller display and less RAM are negatives right off the bat. OTOH, having the touchscreen and tablet capability could be nice. Eh, I'll probably just wait.

All i understand here is “ geek, geekgeek… geek geek…
Good morning thinkers! Hope y’all have a great day! Be safe at your salt mine!
Ohio, so it's third party security software giving you the issue?
Mornin', Bear. Be safe out there. My salt mine is in my garage today... I took today off, and tomorrow is my Friday off. I hope to get a lot of things wrapped up this weekend.
For comparison's sake, here is the original style throw out bearing (top) retainer vs. the updated style. The updated style retains the cast aluminum housing, just like OEM, but uses a steel sleeve where the throw out bearing slides. The original style in this pic has probably been replaced before. Most of these have a groove worn in them in the "home" position. As you can see, that sticker says "Misc Sales" on it, meaning it's just someone off the street buying it. My Buddy said "why didn't you use my name?" because I would have got it cheaper. Oh well... I forgot.
It looks like I currently have the updated version in there... just went back and took a screenshot from a vid. I knew that was possible.... I usually don't put these in without updating them. BUT, I want it to stay as is so my Buddy can diagnose the "whirring" noise it makes. I think the preload is not good on the front bearing, personally.
B&M is in with a modified stock handle. I welded bushings into the holes and also shortened the height an inch. I took it apart, cleaned, and re-greased it. It feels solid!

FortiEDR is made by the company Fortinet. They make firewalls and all kinds of solutions to keep PCs and their users/companies safe. EDR is Endpoint Detection and Response. It is basically anti-virus on steriods but it can also play back exactly what happened in case of an attack on your PC so the IT staff can tell where the problem started and how it progressed.
White, Win 11 can still be installed on PCs that are not supported by Microsoft (meaning cpu is older than gen 8 Intel core). You can't do an upgrade from a running system but you can create a USB drive with the Windows Media Creator tool and then boot from it and do the install. You will, of course need to back up anything you care about 1st as this will wipe the drive.
Remember a couple weeks ago I told y'all about a guy acting like an *** at work?
Well, now I know why he was upset about all the vaccinated people not wearing face covers. He wasn't vaccinated and now has covid. He lied about being vaccinated. Nearly a hundred people work here between the office, shop, and road service. We haven't had an incident in 2021 and the last one was Dec 2020.
Now he has it and is trying to work from home. He has now lost his voice and must email or text. We had to postpone a lessons learned meeting today.
F00kin jackass.
Edit:
We even had the county health people come to our facility twice to vaccinate people. Families too. This just pisses me off. He should have told people he didn't get it.
At least he didn't get it from here.

Ehh. Him not being vaccinated is his own risk. I don't have a problem with it though because its more of a detriment to the himself. Him acting like a total tool is completely uncalled for. Viral load can be just as high with vaxxed and unvaxxed people so he could have gotten it anywhere.

Well damn guys. I got vaccinated and then got covid. That **** sucked. Never had the flu so I can't compare the two but I don't think I would wish either on anyone.
