A condensed version of a Jay Leno joke he told last night:
Two guys go to the beach to meet some girls. One goes one way along the beach and other goes the other. They meet up later and one has gotten a bunch of phone numbers and the other none and complains about never getting telephone numbers. The other guy tells him, "Try this, it never fails. Go to the grocery store, buy a potato, stick it in you swim suit and walk the beach. The girls will notice." The guy picks up the potato and they walk the beach again. When they meet back up potato guy says, "This was a terrible idea. The girls didn't just ignore me this time, they ran away." The other guy shakes his head and says, "The potato goes in the front."
If they are doing lean manufacturing, they should technically be fairly clean and organized anyway.
I think, however, that if they had employees in their plants that they'd be running production instead of brooms, mops, etc.
With production I agree. Not everything is production though like the school. The shop where I came across the differential takes production cars and hand builds the limited number of R and S cars. There are shelves with parts for cars that were built years ago. I've toured the Ford Test Track and there are old parts warehoused there all over the place. Now that the pace of work has slowed down they may be cleaning some of this stuff out instead of warehousing it. With the basic diff for sale in both Utah and Michigan? By spring cleaning I meant more in terms of garage sales than literal cleaning.
I thought I read sometime back that Ford Performance School was moving everything to a single facility at Charlotte NC. track.
That way they can be more organized.
Edit: Concord, NC. Apparently there is a big racetrack there.
Edit 2: Only for cars. Trucks are supposed to be in Utah still. I looked it up. It's also on their facebook page.
