Still need the cable. Unfortunately.

 

Fair question. The cable is still needed because FDRS needs to communicate with vehicle to read status and program the module after updates. Plus, if the USB update fails, as two of mine did, you'll need the cable for the snail speed forced update over CAN bus.

I will say the cost is high for the Mongoose but I can use it on other Ford vehicles in the family with Forscan. It can also be used with IDS for older vehicles but I'm not familiar with any DIY guides to that program.

 

So, first time I’ve seen this message. I’m still sitting at 3.5.2 awaiting 3.5.3 Was just pulling out of garage when it popped up. Anyone seen it before. Vehicle updates screen does not suggest any update available

 

This is actually the 3rd time you are sent 3.5.3 since February. It seems to be stuck downloading one of the last files it needs. This is very common with this update. The other times it failed, it failed for the same reason. You were just sent the OTA trigger today and it will continue to try to download the last file(s) it needs for two weeks before the OTA trigger expires. Hopefully you have better luck this time around.

 

Thanks Rugedraw! Do you see the total number of files in this string by chance? Just wondering how close to the end I might be

 

I can post a screen shot when I'm back in the office tomorrow, but it doesn't show how many are left. It shows how many it's downloaded and that it keeps trying to download the next one, but not how many more to go. Based on others that is seen go through, it's the last or one of the last ones.
