I have had my Job 1 Powerboost at the dealer 3 times to fix the "no updates" issue (it has not got an update for about 1 year now - automatic updates is greyed out). First round they did not do anything at all (just cancelled a recall notice), second round they did an update for a TSB but it did not solve the issue. For round 3, their service manager had discussions with Ford engineers and determined that it needed an APIM update. I brought it in last week, but said the update could not be performed, and have a new APIM on back-order. They are trying (and I cannot ask for more than that).
Rugedraw - can I ask you to look up my VIN and see what work was done last week? My VIN # is 1FTFW1ED0MFB57671 .
From reading here, I understand some have had luck with a "USB Fix" where you add a USB lock to the truck, and after a week or two it may fix the issue and get updates working again? Does anyone have more information on this? How do I get this USB fix?
Yes, once they push out an OTA update, if it does not go through after X amount of time, it eventually expires. However, it will be pushed out again eventually. Because it expires, it doesn't mean you're stuck without getting it forever; it just means you have to wait for it to be sent to your truck again and it delays the process more. In markmad3's case, the campaign coincidentally expired while the truck was at the dealership. Someone at the dealer pulled his OTA dashboard 7 minutes before I did, so they know it expired. It expired at 3:44pm and they checked it at 4:10pm. Unfortunately, markmad3's truck does not have the BlueCruise FSA programming on his VIN, so Ford will not pay them to update the truck. They aren't going to do anything about it.
Hi rugedraw,
I finally had 2.8.1 pushed out to my truck again.
Last night I charged my battery and disconnected the charger. Auto lights off, brake on and let the scheduled update run overnight. It failed.
This morning I charged the battery again and manually ran the update. It failed.
Attached the charger again, made sure it was at 100% and kept it connected and manually ran the update...it failed.
I assume this is still the battery issue from before but when you get a minute could you check and confirm for me?

Great thanks to everyone on this forum!
They did try. They updated the APIM once, and then tried to update is again (this is normal....if a module is way out of date, once you update it once, it can prompt for another update right away) but this time, it failed. It was an update that required a USB that failed. There's a note that reads: "Unable to update APIM. Module recovery 22B08 has been performed. APIM does not recognize software update when USB drive is installed. Cannot enable OTA updates either from the vehicle settings. WCC :7W20". The pulled several TSB's on the APIM afterwards, so they did genuinely try. Feel free to take your tech a nice bottle of whiskey or something for his efforts.
The USB fix I believe is one of the things that Jesse from Infotainment came up with. He's the one that helped me update my truck last week. I have never seen him on this forum, though. You may have to reach out to him on F150gen14.com forums. He is always happy to help and a very nice guy. He is an absolute guru.

Yup.....insufficient battery is the reason for each failure. What a PITA. There's nothing you can really do except to keep trying. Are you selecting the battery type on the battery tender as an AGM battery? Is your battery charger capable of at least 10 amps?

Thank you for confirming - I have no complaint as the dealer is trying hard...

Charger is 15 amps. It has 3 battery type settings; Standard, AGM, GEL. It always defaulted to Standard.
I will choose AGM and try again.
I have a new APIM and my auto update slider works now and it appears I now can receive OTA updates. What I don't know if the dealer updated all of my modules and installed the updates. Can someone please check my VIN and see what it says?

No pending OTA's on your truck and no OTA history in the past 60 days. You just gotta wait until something gets sent to you. I do not have FDRS to check what modules in your truck need updates.
