Do it! Maybe it's the CarPlay/Android auto full screen update. If it is, let me know. I may have to buy another 2 day license to update mine. lol

Holy Updates Batman! That worked!
I reconnected the charger and set it to "AGM".
After it fully charged I left it connected for another hour or so then disconnected it.
Manually started the update again. This time it processed. Took about 90 minutes.
Now I'm rolling with 2.8.1

Thanks for your invaluable information rugedraw.

@markmad3 Awesome! Don't thank me......I just repeat what I've learned from the real gurus that are on here. That is the toughest one to get to go through. I would have left the charger on while it updated, but good for you! BC is next.

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could check my VIN to see if there is a specific reason my 2.8.1 update is failing? I've tried the 10a charger while running the update/hood closed/headlights off/driven for 30 min the day before/windows closed/APIM reset... just about everything I could find. I'm trying to get to BlueCruise. I guess the next step might be trying a dealership.

VIN: 1FTFW1E89MFA20943
2021 F150 King Ranch

Thank you!!

It's failing for the same reason it has failed for just about everyone: Low battery voltage. You just gotta keep trying and pray that the OTA gods shine upon you. Make sure you have your battery charger set to AGM type battery.

Good luck taking the dealership route. You do have the bluecruise programming FSA on your VIN, but that campaign expires at the end of this month and from personal experience and following the issues people have been having with OTA's for months, 99% of dealers can't or won't do the updates for you.

To check the latest OTA update? You need access to PTS, which is dealership only software.

After three tries my dealer installed a new APIM and got the truck back today. Auto updates now is on. Hope something arrives before Ford stops sending them out for a 2021.

Default Temporary Battery Swap?

Thank you for that feedback. For those suffering from the low battery issue specifically - I have a new unused deep cycle standard (non-AGM) battery that I bought for my boat. Has anyone tried getting a new battery to 100% and then temporarily swapping it out on their F150 to see if they can get the 2.8.1 to complete, and then switching back to your OEM F150 battery?
