Does anyone know if there are certain modules to update first to make the whole update process go a little more smoother? I have an appointment tomorrow to drop the truck off for the trailer brake and wiper recall, and was going to try and help them out with updating my truck. Thanks in advance.
‘Good luck and god bless ya. Kinda what I thought 3 weeks ago. Got my truck back Saturday still not updated. @roadPilot was right that it is a s#&t show…. I hope yours turns out better.
I've done my due diligence/personal-responsibility gig by reading the last numerous pages on this thread before commenting a second time, now. Major props and appreciation to all those who have been sharing--and empathy for those being driven wild. The thread is entitled "Software Updates," and in Feb. 2021 the Detroit Free Press published an article regarding the Deep Sleep Mode/phantom battery-drain issue, in which a Ford rep was quoted as saying that a software update was required to fix that prob. When @Livnitup ran my VIN about 2 weeks ago, the list of available SW updates doesn't include any which appear to address battery drain, although possibly one of the listed updates would pertain, yet I'm just not intuiting that. I again fully updated myself on all of this 2021+ forum's thread titles on April 9, and at least as of then, I don't recall having noticed a thread dedicated to the Deep Sleep Mode gremlin (featuring a known fix, anyway). I have a service appointment in two days, primarily in hope of putting Deep Sleep to its own rest. Anyone reading this have insight into this supposed software resolution? Or are we just talking lame battery cells?
As regards the 21G01 BC saga, I'm good with chillin' until this goat-f#@k sorts out considerably. One post here, a couple of pages back, attributed to Ford a report that something like 200 dealers were sent batches of bum ethernet adaptors. "C'mon, man!" As long as "unknown unknowns" such as that are likely throwing monkey wrenches, I'm gonna "step back from the car (truck)" for a while as regards 21G01. These trucks already have such an excellent array of driver-assist and other safety features, which I view BC as simply enhancing--but not necessarily "Stat", as we say in the healthcare field. I want BC (as soon as reasonably feasible) as another layer of safety for my passengers, and a breather on long drives--not to remove my hands from the wheel "on a lark." I'ma eventually go the dealer-service route for 21G01--after "the dust settles" from the current flail--rather than running FDRS myself. For any who may not have noticed (or remember), 21G01 doesn't sunset until the end of the fiscal year, Sep. 30.
That said, my second priority for Wednesday's service appt would be to get my OTA's unstuck from 2.1.1--although very possibly I should be "careful what I ask for," since hoping to receive BC via OTA may end up being as in-vain as by the dealership route. Ugh. At the same time, one or two of us appear to have gotten lucky at their dealer... What the hell, life is to be lived! What's y'all's recommended remedy for getting the OTA-scheduling-&-delivery snags unconstipated? Seems like that would start with 21G01's first referenced TSB, 22-2117 - "Unable to Update The APIM Or TCU with USB - Module Recovery" (same as the Forscan-listed "APIM - SYNC Module [APIM] Software Update"?). That is a question mark. Are those two different things? My recent Forscan report didn't show a Gateway update. Other thoughts, to stand a decent chance of getting OTA's flyin' again? Maybe replacing the APIM will be indicated. Thanks in advance for your valued feedback!

GWM (Gateway Module) is first and keep updating until FDRS doesn’t have any more updates for GWM.
(this is the routing function for the truck so updating it first will help you immensely).
When updating the GWM if told to Ignition Off then wait at least 10 + minutes with the drivers door open.
After the GWM then FDRS will guide you along. Please keep in mind that some updates have dependencies (multiple modules are updated) so it can take some time.
For example: IPMA will take 3 hours to update. Be patient!
Make sure you have a good battery maintainer connected that keeps the voltage at 12+V.
Configure your computer to stay awake. No sleep mode.
Windows native computers only. Macs with virtual images will not connect.
Good luck.
Thanks for the confirmation @gwallers . I just wanted to be sure I am not just totally missing some nuanced part of the install. I think it must not be liking the virtual machine installation, although the VM has internet access and really should have nothing to do with impacting this part of the license validation process.
I can't really justify spending another $600 on a physical Win10 laptop on top of the $625 for the Mongoose interface and Pro-Logix charger, all to get an update that should be coming for free from Ford... But they can't seem to get out of their own way right now and figure this stuff out as many others have pointed out. I was so hopeful when the 21G01 came out thinking they had their stuff figured out, but boy was that a poor assumption to make. I guess my mistake was buying the "Limited" model thinking it was referring to a high level trim package; come to find out it is actually referring to the status of tech functionality in the truck....
Yes, I agree. Had to give it a try. I donated my license to another gent on here so somebody could at least get some use out of it. I know Ford/Helm wouldn't refund for the license as I was running in a non-certified configuration, but I had to give it a go. Mongoose and Pro-Logix are boxed up for return today.
... And I meant to add that I have no illusions about Wednesday's appt., when the most I'm hoping to knock out is the Deep Sleep issue, which has been a known one for close to 15 months. After leaving the truck three weeks ago, not even to see a speck of diagnostics accomplished in seven+ hours, I've told the service manager that I merely ask that as much diagnostics as possible happen inside a day, then the tech can download files, from Ford's allegedly pokey servers, at their leisure and pop the USB's or whatever media in an envelope/set them aside for my return to have the uploads done. Minimum of leaving my baby overnight.

Reason: 2-letter typo

The only battery related update I saw from Livnitup's download of my FRDS activity while at the dealership was something listed as "Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) Software Update". It is shown as ResourceID G2232623. I am not sure if that is something that fixes the battery drain or if the fix is in another module... I have to say I never had an issue with battery drain on my '21 Job 1 truck with a production date of 07/21.
As far as your thought of having them scan and then download offline for later application; I am not sure that is how FRDS works. It was my understanding that when FRDS interrogates the VIN, it then builds the list of packages needed based on what the mothership servers tells it, but downloads them as it is applying them, not as one big download. I could be wrong, but that is how I understood it from the techs that were working on my truck. Like the IPMA update is 3 hours, so I think that is for the download of the software update package and the application of it to the IPMA module. Others can chime in if I am incorrect in my understanding of how FRDS works on this topic.

my recent f250 suffered from the deep sleep mode battery drain problem since day one, they changed the battery junction box, and it still crept up. i could driving at 70 mph and it would send a note to ford pass the truck was in deep sleep. or 20 minutes after getting home it would do the deep sleep or go for weeks and never do it , even when truck sat for weeks un started. icould charge batteries to 100% and within 10 minutes it goes to deep sleep, then other times never. it has to be a software issue .
i hope my new 2022 150 does not suffer the same same issue
as far as updates...my 250 did them randomly or when ever i feel they sent them out
the new truck updated sat as i was setting up the seats and stuff
sync 4 is supposed to be more updates faster.
will be watching this thread. as a caveat, my 2016 exp would seem to do some sort of updates about once a month and i would notice because my ambient lighting would change to blue and full bright
i have found updates occur faster with the modem on so it draws off the gb from at&t
my wifi in the yard is good but not as fast as the cell tower ??
it can cause you to pull your hair out for sure
I finally got the message in Ford Pass that the BlueCruise feature of my truck was ready, 1 year free trial etc. Happy about that, but not sure how long it'll be before I get it back. They had it to update the software this morning because my driveline picked up a decent length of wire on a dirt road, took out a seal on the rear end. Was towed in Saturday evening.
