My guess is a stock ride height shock paired with a spacer would be a softer ride, but that's just a guess.
i ALMOST wish I did what you just mentioned instead of my fox2.0. I heard they were a stiff ride but man do I miss the stock shocks. I got a deal on my fox struts and they do handle great but going over rough train tracks it’s almost like no damper exists. Or I’m driving my f450 bucket truck. The shop that aligned my truck to could not get the truck perfectly aligned. Anyone have that issue with strut leveling kits

Default Help with tires on leveled f150

Hello All,

I'm new to the group and looking for some information to help me go bigger (taller) with my tires. I rushed into getting 33x12.5 and later learned they are not a true 33". I'm looking to go to a taller tire and am willing to trim / remove front crash bar. I do a decent amount of off-roading and am looking for no rubbing with articulation. With my current setup I have no rubbing issues.
I'm looking at 315/70r17 (34.4x12.4); 295/75r17 (34.4x11.6); 305/70r17 (33.8x12); 285/75r17 (33.8x11.2)
If anyone has similar setup with the tires listed above (or larger) please let me know:
What trimming/cutting you had to do??
and if you have any rubbing with articulation??

My current configuration is:
---leveled by fox 2.5 factory race series w/res (no DSC)
---Icon Delta Joint tubular UCA
---Wheel: Icon Rebound 17" +6mm Offset
---Tire: 33x12.5 R17

Thanks in advance for your input and help!

Have a great day!!

Sean

Wow I can't believe I read the whole thread! Lots of great stuff in here. I've settled on Bilstein 5100's on the front (already have them on the rear). Already have them in the garage, just waiting for the weather to warm up here to install them. garages here seem to be in the $400-$500 range to install plus alignment. I figure I can do it my self as I have all the tools any how. I'd just need to get a spring compressor, those that went the DIY route, any particular style/model of compressor you would recommend?

I'm looking at these, saw a youtube of a guy doing the install on a chev and they looked capable for a truck spring.

I want to keep some rake to be able to load up the bed with cargo and not be nose high, so I'm still debating between which setting to use either 1.25 or 1.75. Currently I'm at 37' Front 39.75'' rear. It's a 3.5 Eco SuperCrew short bed.

If, that is, "IF", I was to do this at home, this is the set I'd use.

In my mind, cost is not an issue, safety is. The very best thing I can think of, is to remove your coilovers and take them to a shop that is set up to do the changeover.
The last time I tried to change out just the shocks, I broke my "clamshell" type compressor.
Choice is yours of course, good luck, and stay safe.

That is very similar to the compressor I used.

A good, heavy vice on a heavy workbench would have helped, I was working on the ground. I set mine at 1.25” and I do regret that now but it was all I could do to compress them that far.

If I could do it over, I’d take the springs to a shop and let them compress/swap the shocks out. Either I’ll pay a shop to raise the front of mine up to that 1.75” or 2.1” or I’ll buy a completely different setup.

Mine is a 15 Supercrew with 5.0, I think I might have measurements in my build thread.

that is the same compressor I used to level mine with the 5100s. I set it at the full rise, 2.1”
and had no issues with the compressor. Like what was previous stated though a vice would have made it much easier. I did mine on the tailgate of the truck. I didn’t have any issues getting it compressed enough to go 2.1”.
I used a 1/2” battery powered impact and it worked fine. I do worry about my CV angles now though as they do look pretty extreme and a a few weeks ago in Colorado while driving in 4A I could hear an audible increase in drive drain noise going to that from 2H. Not sure if it’s normal or not. No one else noticed it.
