I plan on using a Volvo relay with whatever I put on the truck - which will be a Cougar or Crown Vic fan. Those Crown Vic fans are pretty rocking too, BTW. FWIW - the 4.6 Cougar/T-Bird actually used the same fan as the 2 speed Mark VIII.

The VW/Audi switches are harder to find, and generally cost more, and there are (as you said) an abundance of confusing variations. The parts are available for the BMW harness still. In fact, you can buy the harness as a kit now - whereas before, I had to piece it together. AND, you can get the whole kit with a sensor on ebay as of late:

Just need to check on those temps.
Thanks. There's two Mark VIIIs at the u-pull but no Bimmers or Volvos of the correct years, but if I could find the harness parts, that does seem easier than spending any more time trying to decode the VW switches.. I'll see if I can find them because I'm pretty sure I could beat $60.

You can always use two separate generic sensors too.... I've seen some guys use the push in radiator sensors.

Why do you suppose nobody just uses the controller out of the fan donor car?

Today's the day: Camerapalooza begins!
(That's the installation of my new radio and cameras)
I am also putting in new speakers. I did the rears (and replaced my last OEM lock actuator) last night and I already can't believe the boost in sound quality!
Also going to do an oil change and replace my brake fluid that turned dark green in just a year.
All in all, it's gonna be a fun weekend.

Most of the newer cars use a controller that uses a PWM controller that the PCM sinks to signal speed to run the fan.
It reduces noise and fan wear but requires the proper signal from the PCM that isn't present on 10th gen trucks, or 11th for that matter.
So, we would either need to create a fancy controller that speaks to the PCM or ,just hear me out, use a cheaper single speed fan(s) with a constant potential controller (relays).
