that was a 10 as well
honestly my favorite power train so far with the 10 speed was my 19 ranger with the 2.3. That truck had gobs of power but on the open road it would get 28MPG all day long because it was more or less idling going down the road

Now and then, an automatic is ok. Especially now that there is a lockup OD. My wife's tiny Escort Wagon owner's manual w a four said, as much as 60% of the power could be lost in 1st gear on hard acceleration. I really prefer a stick. Small nuisance for control. Or 2 or 3 sticks. I saw a thread that said the 5.4's torque was too much for their manual trans. Sad. I was going to look out if (CA) state.

You could get a Super Duty with 5.4 and manual ZF5, later the ZF6. Other than that, the 5.4 torque destroys the M5/R2 due to the weakness of the trans overall

Thanks! I did come close to an F250. A tad big for me. I'd love a 7700. My '01 150 is nearing being mechanically refreshed. Like it, probably stuck w it. (I'm Fairbanks born.)

Do these 2 ZF's shift "crisply?" I read in another swap thread that a ZF does not. Trucks are not sports cars so I am unsure what "crisply" means, though I sort of get what "clunky" would be. And I sure don't get the race for more HP. My Maxivan w a 36O had 140 HP but I had a.2.71 so it had the power of a 318... plenty. What is 0-60 in a pickup?!? The cams are all wrong for that! My 01 5.4 has 265 HP, and effective 3.01 rear. (3.35 & tire upsize.)

I rarely tow. I have no trouble "being 1st or 2nd in line." If roads are damp on a sweeping turn uphill for an on ramp the rear end can gently ease out and I have to back off. I have to watch to not find myself doing 90+, as it's effortless... except at the pump. (I spent my formative years where speed limits were in-town only.)

Now a GOTs mod? Maybe. That could add efficiency by reducing vacuum - work. 330 cubes. Enough for me. I only got the Dodge's 360 as it was a real truck engine, valves rotated for longevity. I loved Ford's 221, *** 260 *** 289. I also like sports cars with little fours so I can work the gears... make the shift point judgements. Now and then, go from 1st to 3rd.

Driving used to be an more enjoyable mastering of multi-tasking. Now, you push "Sport Mode" & mash it. Where's the foreplay?!? Setting the boost from the cab???
