Thinking
I also love a manual trans. This truck is only the second auto I've ever had. I drove a slew of 99-07 diesel Super Dutys before I found this F150 and I can tell you this - I hated them! The clutches are heavy and vague, the shift pattern is vague, the throw is a mile long, and second gear is in your lap. They are just awful.
Wow. Well, with a diesel I suppose you have time to hunt & peck for a gear. If I had the pickets fir it, I'd like to have a Deuce 'n a Half. Double dualies. Ours all did 100+, and I don't mean cliks, but 5 mpg and difficult parking. Ours had Road Runners painted on them. Yeah, we were just a teensey bit elitist. Would love to park that in front of my house for all my wonderful neighbors.
Thanks for the info on those trannies. V sad.

1835 USD (not including duties and taxes)? I thought you were on a budget. All that money and you still need to drive to a shipping depot for pickup, transport it to where you'll work on it, remove your brakes, lines, and parking brake cables, drop your rear end, install the new one, swap everything over, fill it with fluid, bleed and adjust brakes, then transport the old one back for shipment.
For that price, you could probably have a local shop rebuild yours *and* swap in a LS carrier, and not even get your hands dirty.
Skylar, indeed.

It looks like may get to try my hand at a roof wrap this summer. I haven't seen the roof of my struck since last fall, and discovered a surface rust spot a bit bigger than a quarter, and multiple cracks in the paint where rust has started forming underneath. These were no doubt initiated by the hail damage suffered several years ago. I could probably prep and paint just between the rain channels, but would still have to blend in clear at the back of the cab. Wrap will be a lot easier, black will go with the theme of the truck, and nobody under 6'6" or so will ever see it. (I'm still thinking I'll run it only between the rain channels unless someone can convince me otherwise.) I'll plan to sand down and prime (at least) the bad areas, then cover everything with satin black wrap... or maybe I'll get gloss. I've been thinking of doing the roof of the TLX. The truck could be good practice, and it would be more economical to buy one larger roll rather than two small ones.

So that's another strike.
I'll go down to the States and fix it.
Road trip if necessary!
