I would not buy a used driveline part - any used driveline part - with 290kmi. I guess maybe if it had a thorough, independent (or qualified self) inspection, which, let's face it, no junkyard part is going to have. It's just too much use. Even if it is still good today, the time to the next replacement is going to be short.
You must use a 3.55 rear diff because you have a 3.55 front diff. They cannot be mismatched. If you mismatch them, you'll destroy your xfer case. If you change the rear ratio, then you'll have to change the front to match.
You can add a limited slip to the rear (or the front, for that matter) because it doesn't affect the axle ratio; it merely changes how the differential applies torque to the wheels (i.e. more traction/less wheel spin).
