If you watched your mpg like a hawk, you'd see it go down.

This is the BBQ Brush I used. I cut on one side of the triangle and bent the brush into a U. I could have just bent the triangle but was afraid of some bristles becoming uncaptive. Again, the F150s have a rolled tube axle housing. This leaves a crude flange that captures the metal as a paste. Really a tedious pain to remove all the paste. Later I used blue shop towels with solvent, running them to the center, then removing them in the differential so as to not recontaminate the axle tube when withdrawing the brush with contaminated towels. I wish I was somewhere that could have used a pressure washer. I doubt that would get it all, but it would have gotten have of it I think, saving time.

EDIT; I extended the brush with 5 ft of wht pcv pipe, and marked it with red tape to advise me when the brush was in the differential, so as to not go deeper and contaminate the other side y going too far.

If I change the broken spider gear for now ?
Won't that help plenty ?
Maybe get rid of the ring gear too ???

Should prevent further degradation of the rear diff.

Ouch my pocket !!! $$$$$
No! Don't waste any more time on this rear end. It's FUBAR (unless you want to do a full rebuild which will cost 2x replacing it.) As was mentioned before, the best plan is to find a used rear end assembly, swap it in and move on.

Yup. The only paths forward are swapping the axle or a full rebuild. Anything else is just wasting time and money. It stinks but that's your reality.

I spent 20 dollars in raffle tickets, and won this at the show today. Not too bad!

I won a tool set something like that once. I gave it to my wife with the hope that she'd stay the %@$# out of my toolbox.

I will need a trained tech or "eye" with me to be sure there is nothing wrong with the rear axle assembly on the purchase that I make.

Not so easy. Might be for many of you.

So basically I'm not even putting in differential case into my searches. I'm using:

"Rear axle assembly 4WD Disc Brake 2000 F150"

Correct ?
Need all the advice/assistant with this purchase.
Yes basically you would order an axle assy. This will be the housing with internals complete. You have currently a S828 axle which I showed as NON-locker. This chart is what the wrecking yard looks at on his screen. You will want the S829 series axle (shown also) with disc brakes. The 2x4 and 4x4 rear use the same differentials so that isn't a concern in your case.

I'm going to have to ask you OP, are you messing with us with these questions or are you sincere? Most of this has been stated 10x's on this thread already. Seems to be rehashed over and over. Maybe that is just me.

So anyway, just order an S829 from this list when you order from your yard. You can use any of the last letters with disc brakes. They are interchangeable. You can use any of the 4 blue line listings. This listing is a 2000 F150 listing, so you don't have to worry about it being the wrong year.
