What's the difference between the S829 A, B, D etc ?

Me too, actually.
So just to confirm the S828(the rear assembly I presently have) was not in need of added friction modifier ?
Friction modifier is only needed for the limited slip, so no, you don't need it.

He most likely is suggesting the upgrade to an LS - since I'm going to the trouble of the swap.
Hence the suggestion of the S829.

Wouldn't waste money purchasing the same rear end. Put a LS in it for sure.

Not sure if your 4x4, you're avoiding that question. Being in Canada, I'd want at the very least a LS rear gear.
