That's hilarious, LOL. I usually go to O'Reilly. There's a dude in his early 20's over there that is a pretty sharp guy. I don't ever have to explain anything to him... he just gets me what I want. They better be paying him well... he's the reason a lot of people go there.

For generic parts, If they tell me they need year, make, model, I like to tell them I'm fixing up a 27 Hoyt-Clagwell tractor.
They ain't finding that in the books.
Then the person who actually knows parts will get called over.

If that person is old enough, they will get the joke.

She brings them both out and the Duralast box says "Made in Taiwan" and the National says "Made in Mexico". She opens them both up and says "see, they are the same seal", eluding to the fact they are both painted red. The Duralast seal feels like hard plastic... the metal seems thinner. I bought the National. It has "Mexico" stamped right in the lip. I'll take a Mexico seal over Chinese all day.

I think she thought I was nuts... I didn't feel like explaining my reasoning, I just told her I'd take the National.
LMAO! Duralast is GARBAGE!!! I made the mistake of using Duralast wheel bearings on the rear-end of my old Mustang. Went to pop one in the axle and it blew apart sending the rollers into the tube. I didn't even hit the install tool hard. Yep, they're the same as National!

LOL... that was hilarious.

@RVT1KR I agree - most Duralast stuff is junk. I've gone through no less than five NEW Duralast Gold CV Axles on my 06 Escape. The boots crack and sling grease everywhere after one year.

Ya know, Once someone hurts you that much, It may be partially your fault.

I suggest a divorce from Autozone.

After four times, I actually had the original CV axle re-booted and ran that for 3 or 4 years until it cracked. I planned on using the new (warrantied) Duralast temporarily while I got the OEM axle rebooted again, but the OEM has a couple of grooves in it that I don't feel comfortable with. I will be buying a Motorcraft for it now at some point.

Ford must have that drivers side on some goofy angle for these to lose boots like they do (my Brother had an 05 Escape with the same issue - and his was a 3.0). I've never replaced the passenger side on mine and it has 225K on it.
