Have a great weekend fellers!- ttyl!
Fixed the intake on the Escape today. AK and I talked last night, and as he said in here above he found that the intake is nylon composite. He offered a wonderful suggestion to do Bondo. At the last minute I chickened out on it though. AK also reminded me that if I were to mix it too hard, it may shrink and crack. Late last night I watched a guy plasti-weld an intake for an LS on the Youtubes. So, I woke up and figured that if I could get myself enough room in there, I'd shoot the moon and run with the plastic welding. I carefully did it as well as I could for a rookie, then did another smoke test on it. Not even a hint o' smoke came out. I then doubled down.... I went to HD and got some Quick Roof and put a patch over the top. I think it'll work out fine. Drove it about 10 miles tonight, and it runs better than it did before the accident. I don't know if I mentioned it on here, but I also found the vacuum hose for the IMTV had a slit in it from age.
Anyway... it had thrown a second code when I went to clear it. Along with PO171, it also had a lean code on the O2 sensor.... said it was "stuck". I cleared them both though, and it feels like we're good. Now I just need to figure out if the PCM is sending a signal for the fans to kick on. It's been cold, so I don't know if that's why they aren't kicking on, or what. I can put a jumper across the relays and they kick on just fine, so I know the fans and wiring are good. It also uses the same relay as the starter, so I've swapped them around to check those. Need to get in to ForScan and see if I can make the PCM turn the fans on via command. Anyone know off hand? (It is getting to 205 degrees and not kicking on)
Stuff left to do.... airbags, windshield, and charge the A/C.

Reason: Added Temp
I'm going of my brain here... so it might be a smidge off, but about 550 with the fluids and all. All I need to buy still is R134A, PAG oil, and a windshield. Last time the windshield was 150 dollars, so maybe that again? LOL.
I also have about 60 dollars of "cores" in the back of the F150 though, so I guess that needs to be subtracted. Never understood why this damn wrecking yard has core charges. Do you guys get those too? Seems stupid.
EDIT: To answer your question, yep... still happy. The trans is brand new in it, I've maintained the motor very well, and there is no way I'd get something this good for what I've put into it to fix it.... if that makes sense.
Yea, from what I recall, for the 5fours, only the 03's got the "nylon core composite", with the gen10 trucks anyway. Which wasn't much better, they still cracked. 2000-02 had the old "lost core composite". AFA the upper intakes anyway. They vibration weld those together. Not sure what was used on the other stuff tho. I only followed the upper intakes at one time because of the cracking issues. I know, what a loser lol.
Oh , and yea, - life cycle was only 150,000 miles but they were much cheaper to manufacture than aluminum. We took a hit there in longev..
I'm not a huge fan of them.... I'd rather have aluminum. I was talking to my Buddy shortly after I bought it (2008) and he told me that there was an aluminum intake that would work on them.... maybe the Mazda? I dunno.... never looked into it as well as I should have.
As wet as it was around that Crack, I almost think it's been cracked for a while. I only drove it 2 miles before it started acting goofy.
It absolutely purrs like a kitten now. Best it's ran in a while.
I wonder if the butthole that was working at my Buddy's shop something to Crack it. He was not that smart. This wouldn't be the first thing I had to fix.
