kinda what I figured. I had no intention of doing it, just curious as to if it would work.

I still want to know about the PATS bypass. There are plenty of RAP module bypass devices available but the PATS bypass is a new one. There is information on the internet about how to add a second antenna to the key reader device and permanently locating a transceiver key in the steering column but that's not really a bypass. It's more of method of constant activation. All I've ever heard of is sending the PCM off and having PATS removed. If there is an actual method of bypass I'd like to know about it.

I think "bypass" is a programmed module that sits by the receiver ring. I have a full Ford alarm kit for a PATS vehicle, and that is how they did it. In fact, it is a ring that mounts right over the top of it, as I recall.

White, I agree completely with what you write but it's what I've always known to be called the RAP bypass device or module. A RAP device because it only works with a remote like Efarmer describes using in his post. I could be wrong about this but from what I've understood about RAP was it didn't bypass PATS. Instead with a properly programmed remote device PATS is actively turned on and off from a distance without using the passive, chipped key. Even though called a RAP bypass it's not so much a bypass as an alternative method for electronically activating and deactivating PATS so remotes can work without the passive key. As far as I know though there is no way to permanently bypass PATS with RAP. If there is a way to permanently bypass or deactivate PATS without removing it I'd like to know about it.

I have a question.... I am guessing AK or Brew would know this. It is regarding the speedometer. My truck originally came with the 16" wheel option (proven by door sticker), but the PO bought the 17 inch wheels for it when he bought it when it was one year old. I have recently discovered that it reads roughly 6% too slow. So I did some investigative work, and found that the tire difference is a 5% change in diameter.

So, this kind of explains why it is off a bit. My question is.... was there a different speedometer based on the tire size? Surely Ford compensated for this somehow? I don't think changing drive gear that goes in the trans would be accurate enough to correct a 5% change, based off my experience with Mustangs. Anyway, just curious.

You can change your wheel size in the BCM with Forscan and there is a relearn process. That's all that needs to be done and as far as I know there was no different speedometer. It's all electronic. Can't say what years this is for. Other than that there are different colored speedometer cable gears for different sized wheels.

It's a 97, 100% mechanical calculation.

Yep, 97-98 use a speedogear and it will need changed to fit upsizing or downsizing tires. Just a simple gear change and 10 minutes and you are golden.
