Thanks AK. Now I need to find a damn chart, I suppose, LOL. I have one for Mustang's somewhere. The gears LOOK the same as the T5/AOD gears. Any idea how many teeth are on the drive gear in the trans?

EDIT: Mustang chart found on Google.....

That chart Whitey should work for 9.75 and 10.25 also thru 98. 20T is the most common used with 355. If I remember it correctly it should be black. At least the one is black in Red, and I have 265/70/17s. Blue has a 19T in him to compensate for the wheel swap I did last summer. Spot on according to my GPS/radio head.

Yep, - you use to able to purchase JUST the gear by itself. There was a site online that catered to it. I'm referring to the plastic gear only. Not sure if you can to still buy one separately.

Btw, It attached to the end of the plastic worm drive if I remember correctly.

Can you still do that vs going with a new assembly ?

The gear hooks on the VSS and is driven by a shaft gear (metal cut or plastic). There are plenty of new gears available on eBay for 5 or 6 bucks each, or you can buy sets of 4 different for 12 or so.

I just hafta figure out how many teeth are on the drive gear for the 4R70W. I can't seem to find it anywhere. The 98 Mustang had 8 teeth, am I safe to assume the F150 does too?

Thanks for the tip on the 4 pack, AK. I just ordered a set.

White, I think they all use the 8 tooth metal cut on the shaft. Depends now on ratio and tire size and it's easy. There is a chart to speed on one of the Mustang sites showing these and what to use.

Yes THAT's what I was referring too. You guys were as well. Thought so, but wasn't totally sure. I had lengthy conservation with a user in the past whom was under the impression you had to purchase a properly geared VSS for 97/98...way back when.

That was well over a decade ago lol. There was only one site you could purchase from, couldn't find them on E bay back then.

Anyway, glad to see you can still purchase just the gear !

White.....just looking at the pictures thru 2000, 99 and up the gear splines are no longer on the shaft. Prior, there are splines for the specific gear (7-10 tooth) that slide on.

They are the same driven gears that the Mustang started using in 1985. I just don't think people realized it. I have the factory 2.73 driven gear (red I think) in my toolbox. Can't remember what color I put in it, lol. It's been so long since I did the 3.55's.

Thanks AK! I found that the Mustang either had 7 or 8 teeth. If they are plastic slide on drive gear, I can tell because they are also color coded. That's irrelevant if it's part of the shaft, obviously.
