The Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound
Dude, come on. Can we go 10 posts without your performance robbing product being plugged?
Show dyno data before and after, or get out
By the way, I'm waiting for my OEM replacement phasers to show up in the mail. Cut me a deal on these things, and I'll drive to your location (I'm in Imlay City, MI) and run my truck on your dyno. Not many people willing to spend 600 bucks on a product that's sure to hinder performance.

My repair was a success. I wanted to replace the timing chain and everything, but my plans changed when the power steering pump wouldn't come off. I was too afraid the bolts were going to snap.
I ended up replacing the cam phasers and installing the lockout kit. Glad I did it. Truck purrs like a kitten. Thanks for all who helped in this thread.

My PS pump was a huge pain too. Funny 95% of the bolts on my 11 year old truck came off like it was off the show room floor, but some gave me hell.

I have all my OEM parts on a shelf ready to complete this repair. I'm very anxious to get this behind me. As mentioned before, I'm comfortable with a wrench (when it's a motorcycle).
My question is this... where to start?
I opened my hood and feel there are about 30 steps missing before I get the front cover off.
Do you remove the radiator? What else? I've searched for videos, but they all edit the "boring" (yet essential to me) steps to get to the timing chains/phasers. LOL
Thank you!!

I have not done this on my truck yet, but don't believe you have to remove the radiator. Just the fan and shroud. I'd probably start with that and then start back on the top and work my way down. Just off the top of my head I'd probably roughly go in the order of removal of.
Intake
Air filter housing
Fan
Shroud
Accessory Belt
PS Pump reservoir & Bracket
Intake Manifold
Valve covers
Tensioner and Idler pullies
Not sure about the alternator, but maybe.
Timing Cover.
I'm sure there are many other things in the way, but that gives you the rough idea.

Nah, you don't have to take the radiator off although that would make it easier. I left mine on. But it does make it harder to align the timing mark on the chains and the timing mark on the crank sprocket. I just used my phone to get a picture down there and see if I was lined up or a link off either way.
