I didn't have any broken guides. Both tensioner seals were blown though.
Correct. You just remove the passenger side mounting bolt from the bushing then you can pry the thing down far enough. You also need to remove the crossmember under the engine but that's just 2 bolts each side. Zips off pretty easy.

Thanks. I will take a look at it this evening.

some folks say you need to drop the sway bar too. I can't remember that detail. I just remember that it took me about 2 hours from when I started dropping the skid plate until I had the pan all cleaned out and back on. I dropped mine as part of the timing job because I had broken and missing pieces of chain guides and there were chunks stuck in the pickup screen and in the bottom of the pan. I had an oil pressure gauge installed prior to doing the job and my pressure was actually good, but I figured while it was apart it should be done so I won't ever have to get in there again or worry about it.

The video from FordTechMakuloco shows that all the roller followers need to be removed for timing when putting back together. Is that required, or is it just suggested?

if they need to be removed, then I will look into just installing new Melling roller followers after removing the OEM ones.

No you don't need to remove any. It just makes it so the cams won't roll forward or backward from spring pressure when the chains are removed.

I figured that was the case, as long as the timing marks are lined up correctly all should be good.

Got everything put back together and the engine purrs like a kitten.

But, I have a new issue.

I have the brake light illuminated and a message on the dash that says “Check Brake System”, and the brake pedal has very little or no movement and the drivers front caliper seems to be locked up.

Any ideas?

Probably a dumb question, but have you done any recent work on your brakes? I read or watched a video somewhere it's easy to put the pads on the wrong way on our trucks. I think it was a Maculoco video. Or perhaps your caliper simply locked up for some reason and the computer senses the wrong pressure, etc. Maybe a kinked or damaged piston, hose or line?

If you haven't serviced the calipers in a long while - that's where I'd start looking. Those pistons can crack and lock on you. Personally I replace or rebuild everything when I do my brakes. Calipers, hardware, rotors, etc. And don't forget to replace all the brake fluid whether you think it needs it or not.

They were working perfect before doing the timing. Granted it sat for about a week and a half, but it’s strange that one would have seized up while sitting in the driveway.

Unfortunately I don’t have time to dig into it further so I just had it towed to a shop to have them figure it out.
