Default Won’t say “Not now” to update again

Well, it has been several days and the automatic install has not initiated that update and in the settings it says update incomplete.

Is there a way to force it to update now?

That same thing happened to me once. A message popped up about installing an update (BCM 24.?.?). I was distracted driving in a parking lot, and I failed to say “Ok”.

For many weeks, that update showed as “Not completed”. I messaged @rugedraw to ask if anything OTA was broken. He said everything looked ok. Eventually I got another update and then another which now has me at the latest SYNC.

Default Waiting for software update status ...

I have a 2023 F-150 Platinum that from time to time has done software updates, most recently a big update to the center screen.
Software updates have occurred occasionally, with varying intervals in between. When or if the next one will come is always an adventure

Now what happens is that when I tap Settings and then tap Software Updates I immediately get a screen that says
"Getting the latest software update status.
This may take a minute or so."
Beneath that is a circle that goes round and round. Nothing more ever appears.
So far as I know the truck is in range of all normal wifi and phone system signals.

And after a minute, or 2 minutes, or 10 minutes, the same message remains, and the circle keeps going round and round.
What is happening here? Is this a problem with my truck, or is this a problem on Ford's side?

That is the new normal with the latest sync update. That will not show you if you have any pending updates. That will only show you if you currently have an active ota trigger on the server for your truck.

I was having a steady flow of updates but they have since stopped. I'm wondering if you could do a check to make sure the truck is sane.

Sending VIN via private message.

Received. Your truck is on Sync 23291 which is only one version behind the latest. Modules with pending updates are below. I see you haven't gotten one in a while, but your truck is talking to the cloud just fine. Seems like just some crappy luck with the OTA process.

rugedraw --- Thank you.

It is amazing to me that Ford as a company sends out this message this way. In effect it says "we don't want to talk to you so you are on hold forever." That's not a good message to any group, but especially to send to all the Ford truck owners eligible for updates, as this is the group of people on whom the company depends for its future survival. No doubt the company really does not want to send this message to this group, but that is what is happening. The amazing part is that the update system could be organized to hold tight to a lot of lifelong customers and even as an ongoing income source for some premium levels of service.

I am circling back to this because I recently learned this is caused by a recent GWM update. There is a way to fix it. You must unplug the negative cable from your battery for 20 minutes and reconnect it. Check for updates again, and it will not spin forever anymore.
