How does ford do OTA updates wouldn’t 3.5.2 come before 4.3.4? I never had full screen CarPlay.

4.3.4 is an update that replaces OTA 2 8.1 because it was difficult for it to install for this same reason. It doesn't look like the updated update is much better on that regard. In theory, this update should be able to be installed out of sequence without causing any configuration issues. I was told this by somebody much more knowledgeable than me about these things that the update contents are the same as 2.8.1.

Ford had stopped sending out the 2.8.x updates and sending out the 3.5.x updates out of sequence. Turns out they did that because they had this update cooking on the back burner.

So do I have a way to go regarding OTA to get truck up to date? It does have Alexia so it has some newer updates? All the OTA updates seems very confusing.

OTA, no. You'd have to update the truck yourself with a special tool.

You have Alexa but no full screen? That doesn't seem right.

So I received 2.8.1 quite some time ago. Does that mean 4.3.4 won’t be sent to the truck? I got 4.2.x back in late April and early May. Nothing since for 4.3.x or the other update I see people referencing.

Also, is there a way to get the battery SOC reading? It must be stored somewhere in the truck’s modules if it reports the SOC being low when trying to update.

Also, for those having issues with 4.3.4 and SOC, is this update able to be kicked off manually? If so, I wonder if using a charger with power supply mode could be helpful… connect the charger, kickoff update, then turn it back to charge mode or disconnect after successful completion… The only reason I ask is that some chargers don’t react immediately to a power draw on the battery and don’t kick back in to to a higher charge mode for awhile.

And last question. Would making the ForScan change to increase the battery max charge level help…? I don’t recall what the default charge level is, but it seemed rather low to me when I read about the setting. I changed mine to up it to about half of what the ForScan setting said it could set for the max value.

There would be no reason for you or me to get 4.3.4 if we got 2.8.1 (or the equivalent of 2.8.1 with FDRS). Whether Ford's OTA process is smart enough to know that we already have that update or not remains to be seen. It is possible that it will get sent to us and the GWM will reject the update since we already have it, but that has not happened yet as far as I know.

I am sure there is a way to see the SOC with FORscan. It is a powerful tool, but I don't have the need to use it enough to tell you how to do it.

Yes, once the files are downloaded, you can set it to install via auto-updates schedule, or you can manually install it at will. Power supply mode on the charger in theory should help. Thing is, I have seen this update fail on trucks where the SOC is in the 90's, so it isn't all about SOC. 2.8.1 would also fail on trucks that had healthy batteries.

The last one, idk. I didn't even know you can use FORscan to do that.

This is what I was talking about for the battery SOC setting in ForScan.

Battery State of Charge BCM 726-08-02 xxxx xx** **-- 05 00 = 80% ; 05 A0 = 90% ; 05 F0 = 95%

My default setting was 05 00 (80%). I changed it to 05 A0 (90%) and so far have seen no issues.

Interesting. I learn something every day with these trucks. I'd say it is worth a try.

So, I was able to to 4.3.4 to install while hooked up to a battery charger last night. The only noticeable difference is that now I can press the camera button while under 5mph and see my tailgate camera. That feature was broken by a previous update. Now though, I still do not have cameras available at speed.
