Software Updates
It sounds like different dealers get different solutions. I had mine in to address the failed OTA updates, and after the dealer consulted Ford on a solution, Ford did not recommend an APIM replacement and said to wait for the fix over an OTA update. Other dealers appear to be getting instructions to replace the APIM. Some communication has said to bring it into the dealer for a manual update. Hard to know what the real solution is at this point. Does Ford even know?

And my service department still has no ETA on an APIM.
seems like spaghetti, but it seems to be sticking
I haven't checked back in here in a while but see a lot of APIM talk. I waited on my APIM from mid December until mid Feb. My dealer got the APIM finally and replaced it and updated all the modules to the newest available at the time. I was having APIM issues with display blacking out (by the way, if you haven't found already and this happens, hit your instrument cluster brightness buttons, down and then back up is best, and it will come back on for a bit), and I had the 1.7.1 fail in late November and it never tried again it seems.
I now have 1.7.1 with the live nav in the center cluster and that which is great, and overall performance and reliability has been perfect for the month I have had it since replacement.
I have been checking in OASIS and haven't received any further updates so far, really watching for that BlueCruise update, any day now I am sure...

One thing I don't understand is many are reporting they have gone for service and Ford is saying the planned solution is to push out the updates via OTA to fix the stalled failed updates. If these people are having trouble receiving OTAs in the first place which would seem to be a SW issue currently loaded in their trucks, I wonder how this new updated update will be uploaded to the trucks...? Why would they not also fail...? Fingers crossed they have it figured out so everyone can start to enjoy the full features of their vehicles.
Because the Sync system is still communicating with Ford servers, the OTA update system is still reachable. There's would typically be controls in the background allowing Ford to still send and receive information to the truck, and then its assumed that they can still push an update to fix the current problems with OTA. Unfortunately Ford isn't very transparent about this process.

Got the Job 1 2021 F150 Platinum back today. They replaced the APIM module, then initialized and programmed it.
Good news and bad news.
Good news:
I can now re-enable the "Automatic Updates" slider that was stuck (greyed out) after the failed 1.7 update last DEC. Sync4 software version shows Software Version 21223_PRODUCT Revision 197. Some things in the menus appear different so it's definitely updated.
Bad news:
Before the update, using Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping System kept my truck nearly dead center in my lane. Truck would follow a curve and stay in the middle of my lane. The only thing it would do is, about every 15 seconds, it would display a message that told me to keep my hands on the wheel. All I had to do was barley move the steering wheel (left or right) and let it go, and that message would go away for another 15 seconds or so. Rinse and repeat. I could do this consistently while moving down the freeway and the truck kept dead center in the lane and all the cruise control stuff worked as it should (adaptive CC speeding up, slowing down, speed sign recognition adjusting as it should, etc.).
After the replacement of the APIM (and I believe updating of the IPMA and SCCM modules per the service manager) ... using the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping system IS HORRIBLE. The truck is ALL OVER THE ROAD, like a drunk driver weaving out then back into the lane, making very hard adjustments to get back into the lane after drifting into the other lane (does it on both sides). Again, it's weaving back and forth like a drunk driver.
The service manager mentioned that "the technician had to perform an alignment on the cruise control module to correct the cross traffic sensor issues" ... which I was NOT receiving before. I think THAT may be the cause of this drunk driving BS.
Left the service manager some very terse text messages. I'll see what he has to say tomorrow.
Also, I am getting a new message, and I *think* it's related to the upcoming BlueCruise update: Whenever I have adaptive cruise control enabled and then I enable the lane keeping system, I get the message "Active Drive Assist Not Available". I never got THAT message before. After a little research, it would appear as if "Active Drive Assist" was the original name for BlueCruise. So maybe things are partially update enough to know that BlueCruise is a thing, but I still need to receive some OTA updates to complete? I don't know.
