Software Updates
You can notify Ford until your fingers bleed and nothing will happen. That doesn't work. There is nothing you can do to trigger an OTA being sent to you. Either you wait for Ford to send you all the updates you are missing (which is a lot and it will take a looooong time), or you can get the tool you need to do it yourself.
Well, I took it to the dealer Monday of this week. They just got back to me this morning and told me that they are concerned about doing the install manually. The service advisor said that they when they have done these updates on other trucks, sometimes it works but other times it ends up bricking the PCIM leaving the vehicle inoperable for 2-3 weeks until they can get a replacement PCIM. He tried telling me that it was a possibility and they recommended that I just keep the software at 2.7.4! I told him I didn't spend $70k on a modern truck to just have it sit with old software for fear that the update might not work right. I think he just didn't want to do the update and was attempting to dissuade me with fear. I told him I wanted the truck updated and if it bricked the PCIM, then we'd have a discussion about rental car, etc at that point until they replaced the PCIM.
One interesting point he mentioned which I wasn't aware of...he said that when they do the update, they just upload the most recent version - they don't have to do any building of prior versions. He said the reason the modules get bricked sometimes is because the software update they attempt to install may/may not be compatible with the actual vehicle and there's no way to tell until they try it. Serious???
I have to say, this all seems so ridiculous.

So I have an update that downloaded, but anytime I've tried to install it I get something along the lines of the update being "interrupted by another process". Any ideas? I've seen signs of my battery being low again, so I'm wondering if that might be it.

Not complete BS. There is a recall program from Ford 21G01 that is specific for early 2021 trucks that came with the hardware from Bluecruise and the promise that the software to enable it would come via the OTA process. Many trucks got the updates, many trucks did not. That 21G01 program from Bluecruise programming allows the dealers to bill Ford for the hours needed to update the truck all the way up to activating Bluecruise. However, Ford has a notice to all dealers since January to not perform the programming until further notice due to a possible issue with the IPC not updating, and his truck is at the point where the IPC update in question is what needs to be done as the next step in the series of updates he needs. While there is known issue associated with the update his truck needs, it will not cause the truck to get "bricked". It's just that the update won't go through.
With that said, thanks to few brilliant members of this community, we know how to force that update into the truck if it does fail. At the dealership level, if it happens, they would have to open a case with Ford engineering and have them help the dealer update the truck. I am guessing, that Ford is trying to avoid that and is trying to figure out how to fix the problem so that dealers can do it without having to involve them. I can't think of any other reason why they wouldn't just let dealers do it and call them IF it happens, but it happens on VERY few trucks. I know of countless owners that have updated the truck themselves, and I can't recall one time in months that anyone has come across the issue where the IPC update had to be sideloaded into the truck.

Well, this is a first. I have never seen two OTA's in the queue at the same time until now. I didn't even know that can happen. You have a TRM update and 4.2.1 sitting in your queue. The TRM update has failed many times to install due to low battery voltage. Your truck itself is not recording any DTC's that the battery is low. I suggest resetting your BMS and they try to initiate the update again. Once that one goes through, it should trigger the download for the files needed for you to get 4.2.1.

Ok, did the BMS reset, and tried the update. I got a message on fordpass saying the update was successful. So I go hop back in my truck, and see the update icon with the checkmark up top (it had had an exclamation mark previously). tap it, then see that it says "update succesful". So I tap that, but then when I go back, now it's saying update delayed again with the exclamation mark next to the icon up-top. Only now, when I tell it to update, it just goes back to the update status screen without giving me any sort of prompt to update. Any chance you could check and see what may or may not have happened?
I don't know if having two OTA's in queue at the same time is going to cause some problem with 4.2.1 going through. From the small sample size there is for this update, it seems to have a very high success rate. The OTA trigger for it was sent to you on 4/26 and it good for 14 days, so you still have some time left for it go through before it times out. Lmk if what I suggested works.
Park your truck and leave it alone for a half hour without the key getting anywhere near it. Then, go out to your truck again, start it and leave it running for 10 minutes. After it has been running for a few minutes, check for updates again and it should tell you the update is downloading.
