Default Still stuck on the infamous 2.8.1

I realized a couple weeks ago that my 2021 Lariat 502a has been attempting to update 2.8.1 since November!

I have read the portions of this thread on how to address the update. I’ve parked the truck in a place where it has good access to my Wi-Fi, have set it up on a 10A battery maintainer and tried to have it update early in the morning after sitting on the maintainer for at least 8 hours. It still is not completing the update successfully.

Are there any tricks I’m not seeing in here? I have an appointment with the dealer to have it updated but they want to keep the truck for 5 days to complete the update. I use my truck for work and really don’t want to be without it that long if I can avoid it!

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Even following those steps (which you seem to be doing right), that update has been a PITA for many to install. You aren't doing anything wrong. That update is huge and updates several module. Ford should have probably broken that update up into two parts to make it easier to install.

Would appreciate a check of my VIN. I've never had a problem with updates in past but now it seems truck is stuck at 3.5.2. Thanks!

3.5.3 has been sent to you twice in the past 60 days. Both times it failed because your truck was not able to download all the files it needed from Ford's servers. This is a very common problem with this particular update. There is nothing wrong with your truck. The problem is with Ford's OTA process.

Thanks! I am surprised it tried at all. Truck has only been half connected for many months according to FordPass. I could start, lock, unlock but nothing else. FordPass showed "Not Connected" all this time for Trailer Light check, Zone Lighting, ProPower etc. Just earlier this week everything now finally states "Connect via Cellular" and FordPass widgets work again. Maybe on next push....

The Fordpass app has had many quirky issues reported lately.

Yes, hopefully better luck next time. I have seen that update fail 4 times on a single truck, and I have seen it go through on the first try on others. It's very strange.

The app says I have Ford Power-Up 3.5.2

If I login to Ford.com and look up my truck, it says that my sync version is 4.0.22192

Are these the same thing?

Short answer is yes. 3.5.3 will give you sync 22293.

Your truck is on Sync version 22177, which means your truck is behind on updates. That software is almost a year old. The last time your truck recorded an OTA was in December of last year. The older updates your truck needs are rarely pushed out by Ford and sometimes fail to install, but there is nothing wrong with your truck that would make it incapable of getting updates. The only thing I see wrong with your truck is that it is recording DTC's for low battery voltage every time it is driven. A low battery charge can prevent updates from installing when they are sent, so I would have your local dealer perform a Rotunda test to verify it is working the way it should. These trucks have a lot of tech and modules that are always working and a good battery is something you want to make sure you have. If you do get sent one of these older updates, you want to make sure your truck's battery is in a good state to take advantage of the update and have it install successfully.
