An FDRS license (software) and a specialized cable for programming your truck (Mongoose). It's a $600+ investment or there are some folks who rent their cable.

thanks! I’m pretty savvy, but I don’t think I will be doing that. 😂

It's can sound intimidating, but it is actually pretty easy to do. Just time consuming.

Default Failed ota updates

I had a couple of failed updates in March 2.7.3 with no explanation. Like many others I am getting very frustrated. Almost two years in and still waiting for BC. 1FTFW1E55MFC11023 would appreciate any info.
Thanks in advance.

That is the same update my truck was stuck on that caused me to buy a Mongoose and do it myself after 3 different dealers failed to help me. In your case, I see the dealer performed an APIM update on 11/4. It is possible that they may have had to update the IPC before they updated your APIM and possibly broke the update process, but I am not sure. I am going to have someone more knowledgeable than me look at your truck and get back to you.

21 Xlt, stuck on 2.7.4 and won't update to 2.8.1 that fordpass is telling me is next.
Could anyone look my Vin up and give me a hint on what is the issue? My first thought is battery.

It failed multiple times due to low battery voltage which is very common with this particular update. Next time you get it, connect your truck to a battery tender when you park it for the evening. Schedule the update to install at 4am or so after the truck has been connected to the charger for hours. This will greatly increase the chances of it going through.

Thanks! Confirms my suspicion yesterday when I hooked my tender up and it showed 53% after an hour drive and being parked for 5 minutes.

You may want to have your dealer perform a rotunda test on the battery to make sure it is still working up to par.

It is possible that the ethernet plug that connects your IPC to the rest of your truck is faulty. Apparently, it is a common issue that cause update failures. It is possible that my truck suffers from the same issue which is why I had to manually update my IPC to get it unstuck. To update it via canbus using FDRS is going to take hours. It to me 6 hours to install that update alone. Your dealer can do it, but they would have to diagnose your truck as having an issue which warrants them having to manually update it in order for Ford to pay them labor hours to do. This will be difficult to get them to do, imo.
