I got one or 2 updates and then stopped, I reset the battery management and the updates started again, I think I currently have all the updates, have full screen Carplay and the other day I got the trailer position/license plate light update

Hi all, I just bought a 2021 in platinum trim and my truck seems to be stuck on 2.7.4. Fordpass tells me that 2.8.1 is ready for install and was received on January 20th, but it will not initiate installation. I’m not getting any notice of failed install, just a notice that says it will install at the next scheduled time which is currently set to everyday at 3am. Would someone be kind enough to check my vin (1FTFW1E82MFA09279) and let me know if there is any information to be gleaned? Thank you so much for the help.

The OTA trigger for 2.8.1 expired on January 19th. I don't know why your truck still says it is available to install, but as you can see below, PTS shows your truck thinks the OTA trigger is still active even though it is not. The files were successfully downloaded to your truck, but the install failed several times due to low battery conditions. This is a VERY common problem with this update. Get yourself a 10amp+ AGM battery charger to keep on stand by for the next time you get it.

My advise when you get it again: Drive your truck for 30 minutes before you park it for the evening, and connect it to the battery charger as soon as you park. Set auto updates for 4am so the update starts after the truck has been on the charger for hours. Set the headlights to off, set the parking brake and lock it. This update will inhibit your truck from 1.5-2 hours while it installs. While it is updating, stay away from the truck. and keep the keys away from it.

Thanks so much for checking into that rugedraw. I did put it on a battery tender last night with all the other parameters you suggested in place and it still failed. My charger is only 6amp Max however so maybe I need to use a stronger one. At any rate, I really appreciate your help. 👍🏼

Actually I just reread your post again and it looks like it’s not going to even attempt to install until I get another trigger. How will I know when that is when Fordpass is telling me it’s pending install right now each night? Thanks again.

Yes, Fordpass should notify you, or you will see an icon on the top right of your touchscreen indicating there is an update ready to install.

Eventually, Fordpass will stop telling you it's there. Try resetting your APIM. With the truck on, hold down radio power and forward seek at the same time until the screen reboots. Do it twice back to back.

When you say "inhibit" does that mean the truck will not start?

That is correct. That is why I recommend setting auto updates to install in the middle of the night when most people are not driving or need to drive.
