sorry to hear. What’s your next step?

Got my battery topped off on charger and manually started 2.8.1. Through the window I can see screen say preparing for update, I hear a few modules clicking and then the screen goes black and no indication of anything happening. Should the screen remain active throughout the entire update?

I haven't gotten that far, but I have read on here that people say you can see the progress on the screen. I'd leave it alone for a while to not risk interrupting anything even if the screen is black. Or give me your VIN and I'll run it to see if your OTA dashboard says anything. I'm at work for another 2.5 hours, so I'll check back here as often as I can.

Edit: Nvm.....I found it. It says "deploying". I'd leave it alone.

Thank you! After I saw screen go black I did open door and start vehicle. I manually re-started the update and have left it alone since then as you indicated. Fingers crossed it works although I'm not terribly optimistic given a blank screen again.

I just rechecked it, and it still says deploying, and it says it started once at 3:10pm and again at 3:22pm which I assume is when you restarted it. However, I see this which is not a good sign. When you topped off the battery, did you leave the charger on it or you took it off?

its still on charger. My ctek is showing stage 7/8 so the battery is essentially fully charged

Interesting. In the notes there it says battery level insufficient.

Exactly why I asked if you kept the charger on.

As of two minutes ago, it says installation is queued and the update files are ready to activate. I believe this is the part where you're supposed to go into the truck and initiate the update, but you did that already. I'm not sure what you should or shouldn't do at this point.

Really appreciate you taking the time to help!

I guess for the time being I will let it sit another 30-60 minutes and check back.

I'm thinking that the battery needs to be near 95% charged to allow the update to initiate. Your OTA findings appears to coincide with my CTEK charger reaching stage 7/8 which is essentially fully charged (it will only start stage 8 after 10 days on charger).

edit: Just checked, everything is still black inside truck. No indication of any update occurring. I think I do need to re-start the truck and manually initiate the update again. I'm thinking the battery needs to be in the correct state of charge when the update button is pressed and it only likely reached that state after I initiated.

My pleasure....no trouble at all. I leave the office in an hour and won't be back until Monday, so I will check one more time before I go home.
