@camera-source.com, I am interested in the second kit you listed above. Can the side cameras be installed in tow mirrors?

Can you post the installation procedure for the side cameras so that I can look it over to see what is all involved?

@camera-source

When do you think you'll have the site updated for the Sync3 (2016) compatible product line ?

I believe he just updated the website with the new products, as described in the earlier post today. In TexasFordings post he confirmed that it is compatible with Sync 3. Are you looking for it in writing?

Camera Source

You may want to edit those part numbers!

I am sure glad to see someone making progress in this area!

Questions:
1 Why does one setup have the parking guides and the other does not?

2 Not really clear on why the flush mount won't work on an XLT grill. You say it needs a flat spot on the upper frame of the grill 1" sq, which the XLT certainly has. Granted, the surface is canted back about 15-20 degrees off vertical, and perhaps the other grills are dead vertical, but surely that is just an adjustment/shim problem you could easily solve? Perhaps talk to a plastic printer company? Not cost effective to do just one as a customer, but if you did it and added it as an option for 5-10 bucks you would drastically increase the customer base!

3 Any conceivable reason I could not just make a bracket that would hang down from the top frame? I have not really looked at it close, but it seems that a simple aluminum "L" with one leg hot clued/Epoxied to the inside lower surface or the upper frame (so that the other leg hung down below the frame, slightly behind the "plane" of the grill), drill a hole in the lower leg of the "L" and mount the camera. This would help hide it as well.

Thoughts?

It can be easy to confuse our interface solutions with Lockpick device. Any part number that ends in -SYNC or -MYT is a Lockpick and will not work with SYNC 3. You must use one of our custom interface solutions to gain access to multi-cam support on your SYNC 3 device. All the products are updated on are on the site here:

https://camera-source.com/automotive...e-cameras.html

Sorry for the confusion just want to make sure you are all clear on the two different solutions. Lockpick is only good up to the MyFord Touch model, SYNC 3 must use our interface as Lockpick is not compatible.

Thanks again!

Thanks for asking your questions. Just for clarification can you zap me a PM with the part numbers that are confusing? We would be happy to change them or perhaps my previous post clarifies things a little?

You are absolutely correct regarding the XLT grille. The upwards canter causes the camera to have a view that is not down low enough and you will not be happy with the view. That being said, you can certainly craft a shim or something but we found that it looks fairly out of place when it's shimmed off the grille. You are welcome to check it out and if you aren't happy with the look you can send it back but just be aware that you will have to drill a hole in the grill to install the camera.

Custom brackets are also an option and we have an alternative camera that mounts under the grill cross member that may be easier if you're customizing something. We use this model on Super Duty trucks because we can tuck it underneath easily but the F150 grille would require a custom bracket to make this fit:

https://camera-source.com/automotive...ra-system.html

Keep in mind that the Super Duty camera linked above and the surface mount version for F150 are two different cameras and are not interchangeable because of the camera orientation. Each one requires a hole to be drilled in your nice chrome grille so be certain it will fit before drilling

Thanks and happy to help if you have more questions.

Happy Thanksgiving,

The side cameras can literally be mounted anywhere. They require you to drill a hole in the mounting surface and then the cable and camera base push through to lock in. The camera head is on a swivel so you can twist and turn it to the desired view and then tighten the lock with an allen wrench to secure everything. So that being said it should work fine on your tow mirrors as long as you can drill an 18.5mm hole and route a cable through to the inside of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, because of the wide range of applications the instructions are general and intended for pro installers. I have someone working on side mirror install instructions/video for F150 but depending on your year even those may be different. The kit install requires the mechanical know-how of the installer to get the side mirror apart far enough for cable routing while not breaking stuff in the process. I can tell you that I know of several folks who installed on Super Duty trucks and they had a lot of fun taking the mirrors apart... (I say that sarcastically!)

Some projects require a 6 pack of cold ones and a couple hours of free time. I may suggest that the side camera project typically requires a 12 pack, big screen TV in the garage, an open afternoon, and Church on Sunday morning.

All kidding aside anyone with mechanical ability can do it but you have to be mechanically inclined enough to disassemble the mirrors on your own. We will post F150 details as soon as we can as a guide.

Thanks and happy Thanskgiving,

I suggested the edit because the part #s you cited in post #130 are the same part # (although they link correctly to the different kits).

Im going to look at the feasibility of crafting some sort of "hanger" similar to the SD camera example. What size is the hole that needs to be drilled to hold the camera? I assume the camera body wants to be horizontal for best view? How thick does the stock have to be to grip the camera, or is it just a bolt on the back of the camera body? Perhaps a piece of plastic or aluminum stock CA-glued or hot-glued to the back of the grill (behind the medallion?) and extending down just beneath the emblem will do the trick? Camera can't weigh much and a good clean glue joint should last years.

Hi carrierj,

I guess I am. I would prefer it if it would be writen on the web site that it is capatible with Sync3, but I cant find any place that mentions it.

Maybe it is just a question of time... Because it would add visibility for their product to be able to do a Google-Search on a "F150 2016 Sync3 front camera" and end up on their web site with a product that can be ordered directly...
