I tried installing the side cameras today, but ran into some trouble getting the wire into the cab. The main harness that goes through the door hinge area has no extra space around it, so I'm unable to get the wire through and get the harness back in place. This is illustrated on page 36 of TexasFording's fine manual (thanks very much for writing that btw).
I'm thinking of drilling a small hole and sealing it but the new cameras have a large (3/8 in diameter or so) ballast on the wire, so it would have to be a bigger hole than I'd care to drill.

SO, has anybody else had trouble with this?

@CameraSource - can I cut the wire from the camera and splice it? that way I could just do a small 1/8 hole and feed the wire through and rtv it to keep water out.

thanks
john

Lucas are you planning on making a Tutorial w/part #'s on this like you did for the heated steering wheel?

Also will it work with SYNC 2....

Mine is routed as in the pic...Works great no wires can pinch although it looks close to the hinges but they aren't.

I ran the wires through the doors, then out at the black rubber flex tube. I unclipped the connector at the body then pulled it out. I held up all of the wires with the hook on a bungee. I used a small round file and made a half moon sort of at the bottom of the oval opening. wrapped some tape around the camera wires where they rest at that point. Then was able to clip the connector back. Then zip tied the wires to the flex tube.

So good news...The Microsoft display adapter showed up and it works really well. I can jump in my truck and run video from my phone without any wires. The adapter powers off the usb installed with the Rostra. It all sits nicely inside my glove box now. On my S7, you swipe down from the top and click smartshare. The microsoft adapter is seen(click share phone screen) and transmits with wifi direct. That is great so you can utilize regular wifi or cellular at the same time. It seems to work great. The greatest thing though? It sends audio over bluetooth!! The quality of the video is much better than SD though. I was highly impressed with the quality. You can almost read the fine print in commercials! Now if they would just get the Rostra working well...we will be set.

OK, Ya have my attention...Do you have pics + a link to what I need to go wireless? I like using Google maps, if I can do it W/O wires, then this is a bonus.

This is it. It seems to work pretty well. Sometimes when I am watching for a longer time, the sound doesn't exactly match the timing of the picture. The big advantage though is going wireless and being able to send audio over bluetooth. An Amazon Firestick also works, but you need to pair the bluetooth. For ease of use and of course google maps...I would use the microsoft display adapter.

In other news, I talked to my distributor of the Rostra unit yesterday and he said the engineers told him to expect a firmware update by the end of this week. Finally!
