I've drained all the fluid. Only way to replace the breaks is to take out the hubs and axle shafts. During my maneuvering from the bed to the garage it was standing on end so a bunch of fluid ended up on one side and whenI pulled the one shaft a lot drained. So took off the cover and drained the rest (wanted to inspect everything) mating surfaces are cleaned so I can put the cover back on tomorrow. Then I'm gunna clean the housing real good and try to get a primer coat on it. Then I need to order to brakes and brake lines. Once that's reassembled (if I don't go with new bearings) I'll primer the rest of it and get some black laid down.
The fluid looked good tho

When you pull the shafts, and if you have no gauling or pitting, I'm going to bet the bearings are good too. On these 60's/61s, they are fairly bulletproof. Only if they get water inside, do they usually give you any problems. If the wheel bearings are good, then some seals and clean up, paint that bad boy. lol

Does that truck take the 12x3 shoes? or the 316s (2.5)?

2.5" pads. And Thanks. I was hoping I could put it back in. This thing looks dang near pristine on the inside (minus the gunk on the passenger side lol. I'll get some better pics in the daytime tomorrow but here's a few quick snapshots. Also bought the only 2 9/16" socket in the city from Napa. Probably won't use it again for another 10yrs whenever I need to replace the brake pads. But now I have it!

A new set of shoes, hardware/spring kit, seals etc and some serious cleaning and painting and that will be nice. E brake cables will swap when removed carefully.. How does the bearing surfaces look? They are grease coated so I couldn't see

Commenting is fine. Using his rear end, now that might be a problem (or not), lol

Lolol

Here's a pic of the bearing AK. The inner surface has some grim I need to clean off but it looks pretty smooth. Also noted they are made in Canada Timken bearings

Also yeah not gunna be able to swap anything over. My current rear brakes are crap (and don't know if they'd swap over since it's an 81 rear end) and the current axle lines twisted off when removing so new lines all around!

2100....what is the shape of the outboard spindles? Pic? So far from the pic of the bearing inner riding surface, I'd personally change them

Yeah, me, too. I'd rather do it now than have to tear it apart later.
