I found an 07 ext cab that I really like but the timing is off and honestly after watching your headache I think I'll just stick with the good ole 03 for a while. Lol

There's no way I'd own a 3V unless it was given to me, or I got it for a REALLY low price. You are a grand into just parts to do the chains and phasers.

Whitey....that 3V you are working on. Is it a 4.6 or 5.4. I must of missed it. Are the solenoids working correctly. That would throw the timing off also. Just wondering.

It's a 5.4 - and the solenoids are new, so I assume they are working.

Just opened my package with the crank socket. Hope it works. Might not know for a day or two, we just got slammed with another 10 inches of snow - and I have a sinus infection. If it weren't such a lawn gas job, I'd keep it in my garage so I could use the heater. Buuuut....

On a side note, my Wife said I need to get something better for snow removal. Guess I'm getting an ATV with a plow. Which is what I damn near bought back in October. But, said person wasn't hip with the idea.

Alright.... I think it is safe to say the SBC crank socket works on a modular crank.

Link to the socket I got, for anyone looking:
Amazon Amazon

I find it odd that the 302 has a bigger diameter crank snout than a tree-fiddy.

Thanks Whitey. I have a SBC socket, so I'm good then. I have one for the SBF also, but was told that wouldn't fit the Modulars. Now i'll only have to put one in the bag. lol

My buddy had an 04, 1st year 3V, and it was sitting at 287k miles when he gave it to his grandson, and has never had the infamous tick. Not even the guides were noisy, compared to our 2V's original style crap. I've researched the parts, and other than the VCT's, there is no difference, other than the upgraded guides/slides. He's run Royal Purple since it was new, and never goes over 3k in miles. Funny thing about this STX is that so many different people have driven it over the years. You would think that someone would of screwed it up, lol. The kid still has it, and it's well over 300k, and starting to sound a bit noisy now. He definitely doesn't take the care that Sam did, who sorrily passed away last year. I always remember that little yellow STX, crank windows, rubber floor, and the best sitting seats ever for that year truck. lol
