I marked everything before I took it apart. There is a far better way to do it, but he didn't want to buy the tool. So, I did it old school. I set it right back where it was. We weren't changing the phasers or cam gears..... so that made it easier.

I think I'll buy the tool, just to have it though.

There are 2 tools that we used back in my days at Ford and an Ind shop. Both shops had the full kits, so it was easy. I didn't need my own, as I only ran SBF's so nothing really was necessary. OHC's are a different horse. lol

I just bought the crank holder off ebay for 26.00. The cam locks I'm going to cut out with my buddy;s plasma cutter. I'll grab them from AZ, use them for a template, and have them cut out that was I have them for later.

I've done lots of 302's and 3.0's, and even one 350. They are simple without a tool.

I wanted to do it the other way on the 3V.... even watched the FordTechMakuloco video a few times to make sure I knew how to use it. But, I went to plan B. If the timing was correct before, it still is now. I know without a shred of doubt that the drivers side is fine.... but the passenger side worries me. But, he swears it ran fine other than the noise. So - I'm going off his word.

Kewl. I hope he's not off one tooth. You'd never find that unless you were looking specifically for it. It would cause a side to side imbalance and a definite shake of the engine.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. If that skipped a tooth, then I set it right back like that. But, I work with what I've got on the budget I've got.

Do you have a socket for turning the crankshaft for the modulars. I have one for the SBF but am not sure it is the same size or will fit. I tried to find one tonight, but SBF's were everywhere, nothing pointed to the modular motor though. I thought if you had one, you could give me the diameter.

I've got, what appears to be, about 3 inches outside right now and it is still coming down.

No I don't, I've always put the crank bolt back in and turned them that way. I really ought to get one though.

That's a good idea. I wonder if I could have the guys are work 3D print one for me?

You know, you don't need the cam lock tool. Some just like to use one...while other do not, -as far as that goes anyway.

Didn't know if you guys realized that or not.

Btw- I helped get an article published at another site about this. All I did is title it appropriately, - and get in the how to's. It's a Dynotech article.
